My feet steps became heavier and heavier as my school building came in view. Am I the only one that thinks that school is sucking away the positive energy out of the youth? I really want to go back home and properly celebrate my birthday. I kept thinking up ways to somehow make school disappear forever.
I looked up again and all the negative thoughts vanished away when I saw the back of a familiar person with wavy hazelnut hair that was contained in a low ponytail. Long legs that are supposed to be on the front cover of a magazine. Curves that every women would kill for.
“Aiko!” That person that turns around to look at me with clear brown eyes as I called for her. That person is my best friend and my childhood friend that I’ve known since we were kids, Hamasaki Aiko.
“Look what we got here, it’s the birthday gir- oof!” I attacked her with a bear hug before she could finish her sentence. I squeezed her tighter until I heard her chocking.
“Okay, okay, I get it I’m awesome now let me go before I die you hulk.” She laughed out while patting my back as a signal to let go.
“Sure, you’re ‘awesome’.” I rolled my eyes playfully.
“I guess I shouldn’t give you a present.” she said as she was going through her bag. “Since you’re giving me attitude.” She held up something that looked like a small jewelry box.
The moment I laid my eyes on it I started to bow down. “My queen, you’re just as beautiful like always. Also, may I say how blinding your awesomeness is.”
She stared me what felt like ten long seconds contemplating if she should give me the present. “Your acting was too stiff and it had no soul, but since is it’s your birthday you’re getting a passing grade.” She handed my present over.
“Thank you my quee- “
“Drop it.” She glared at me.
I sticked out my tongue playfully in an attempt to look cute. Which earned me an eye roll.
“Just open it already.” She crossed her arms.
Hearing that I didn’t waste any moment opening it. As I opened the present my eyes widen in surprise seeing a beautiful necklace. It was a butterfly necklace. The butterfly had pale white wings with a bright purple stone in the middle of its chest. It was beautiful.
“Do you not like it?” Aiko asks nervously.
“Are you nuts!? It’s beautiful!” I immediately put it around my neck. The coldness of the chain around my neck made it feel extra special strangely enough.
I turned around to show Aiko. She nodded in approval. “It fits you so perfectly. The color of its wings which matches the color your hair and the purple which matches the color of your eyes. It was hard to find something that matched your unique beauty.” She touched my mid long hair which was pale as the snow. “Own your beauty Ayako.”
Teary eyed I gave Aiko another bear hug with extra squeeziness.
For as long as I can remember I was born with pale white hair and purple eyes. Which is super rare of course. My look would always earn strange looks from everyone. Old people would whisper in their circle that I was a cursed child. Parents would pull their children away the moment I come in to their reach scared that I was contagious. I was bullied hard in elementary school, but it was worse trough middle school. Kids would try to pull my hair out to see if it was real or poke my eyes thinking that I was wearing some stupid contacts. In the end it was easier to say that I had albinism
Trough all those hard time Aiko stood by my side and always protected me. She was the only one who thought that my appearance was beautiful.
I smiled remembering the first time that I met Aiko in kindergarten.
She stared at me for long minutes with her big round eyes and whispered “So beautiful a fairy.” Now that I think about it that meeting made me become obsessed with fairies.
I snickered. Still holding Aiko.
“Ayako!” She yelled.
“What?” I looked up at her. Why does she got to be so damn tall? She is 5 feet 11, which in comparison to my 5 feet 3 is a giant.
“They are closing the gate!” she pointed at the school guard who was closing the gates.
“Shit!” I yelled.
We both made a run for it.
“I will see you later. Good luck coming on time with your short legs!” She laughed as she run in trough the gates in to the school building leaving me behind.
I’m so going to kill her!
