Jonas

"Hey, I'm really craving like, some sweet shit right now," Jill said out of nowhere, as soon as Jonas answered her face time call. Jill was in her car, wearing what Jonas recognized as her panda onesie with her hood up over her head, the black ears sticking up straight as she drove. "I really want some taco bell. You want anything?"

"Did you just go out for an excuse to come over?" Jonas asked, eyeing her as she held the phone lower so as to see better while she drove.

"No, I'm really hungry but my loneliness kinda kicked in. Now what do you want, I'm up next."

"Get me a soft shell."

"And the little cinnamon thingies?"

"Yeah."

When Jill arrived she didn't bother to knock. She simply grabbed the spare key from under the mat outside the door and let herself in. She flopped down beside Jonas on the bed with the bag of food and her hood still up. Why she was running around in a panda onsie early on a Saturday Jonas had no idea but at least she brought food.

"Get off the cover," Jill said, pulling the comforter up from beneath him to snuggle up under.

Following suit Jonas got under the covers too, kicking his shoes off and letting them fall off the edge of the bed. Tapping Jill's shoulder Jonas frowned, "Get your shoes out of my bed."

"I took them off at the front door. Here," she said, holding out the box of cinnamon puffs, "Get your three."

"Only three?"

"Be glad I'm even sharing. Scoot over some more." Once she got comfortable Jill took out a taco and took a small bite. "Tim and I broke up."

"Good." Jonas didn't even wince as Jill sat up halfway to smack his arm. "Sorry, I mean 'are you okay?'"

"Yeah I just... I wanna apologize cause we've been friends since I moved here and I haven't been all that honest about everything that's been happening..." Jill said quietly, curling into Jonas' side, "Just promise you won't say anything to my mom or anybody else if they ask..."

"What is it? He didn't hurt you did he?"

"No, no. He didn't do anything to me I just... I've managed to keep this to myself for nearly a week but..." Brow furrowing as a deep frown claimed her features Jill shook her head at herself. "I couldn't just keep ignoring it. I had to say something, ask somebody advice before it was too late and Jonas I- I'm scared."

"Well... you can tell me anything, you know that, so don't ever hesitate to ask me for help."

"I'm... I think- I mean I know it now but... Jonas I'm pregnant."

"Oh." Moving slowly Jonas sat up to look down at his friend, still holding onto the cinnamon stick he had yet to bite into. He knew there was no way she'd joke about something like that but a part of him needed to get a clear look at her face. She looked so frightened and vulnerable as she laid curled up against his side slowly chewing on her food.

Not sure what to say Jonas sat cross legged on the bed, resting his elbows against his thighs. "So it's Timothy's. That's the only person you've been with for nearly three months now."

"Five months actually. And yeah, it's his," Jill mumbled, not even bothering with a weak smile as she swallowed her food. She didn't reach for another piece out of the box that sat in the middle of them and Jonas thought it'd be rude to eat at a time like this.

"What are you planning to do?" Jonas asked, brows furrowing as he looked down at her.

"I was hoping you could help me figure that out. I haven't told him about it, I think we're broken up right now but you know how we are sometimes... one minute we're taking a break and the next he's spending the night." Jill threw her hand up lazily.

"Baby aside, are you even serious about Timothy? I mean no offense but he's kind of a dick and you're literally always arguing."

Smacking her lips Jill Sat up to give Jonas a look. "Fighting is normal."

"No, having disagreements is normal. Dismissing another person's feelings and telling them they're being irrational or over reacting every time they say something you don't like isn't normal."

"So  you're saying that I shouldn't be with him?"

"I've been saying that since the day he walked up and called me his n-word... Is that something you want to surround yourself with at a time like this? Jill I care about you so of course I want what's best for you- I just so happen to think that what's best for you may not include being with someone like Timmy."

Biting her lips Jill wiped at her cheek. Sniffing a little she sat up on her elbows, wiping at her nose with the cuff of her sleeve.

"Are you okay?" Jonas reached over to pat her back.

"Yeah I'm," she waved him off, "I'm fine I just... I thought you'd be disappointed."

"Why?"

"Cause I'm thinking about keeping it. I mean, I always said if I ever ended up pregnant at this age I'd-"

"Send it to the gods?" Jonas suggested.

"Yeah..." Jill snorted. "But honestly I feel like I could handle it."

"A child isn't something you handle it's something you raise."

"You know what I mean... Jonas I can't keep something like that to myself. If I got rid of it and my family found out or worse Timothy then what?"

"You're gonna keep it or...? I'm sorry Jill I just- I don't think you should put yourself through that. Who cares what your family or even what that asshole Timothy thinks, you're the one that's gonna have to carry this baby. Jill I'm willing to stand by you no matter what your decision is but you and I both know you're not ready for something like this. You need to settle things with Timothy first before you go making such a huge decision."

"You think I should tell him."

"If you're keeping it then you don't have much of a choice. I just want you to be happy, just know that when it comes I'm not babysitting or changing diapers."

"Dammit," Jill whispered, tears starting up again, this time in an uncontrolled annoyance. Rolling onto her back Jill ribbed at her eyes.

"What's wrong?" Jonas reaches over only to have her shake her head at him, waving him away.

"You were supposed to talk me out of it."

Blinking back his surprise Jonas swallowed his spit, trying his best to ignore the sudden awful pain in his throat. Pulling Jill into a hug Jonas kissed her forehead. "I'm here to support you, Jill, not make these decisions for you. If you don't think you can take care of baby then don't have it."

"It's not that simple."

"Jill... just do what you feel is right. You may act like you don't but you care too much about what others want or think of you. This isn't just about what Timothy might want or what your parents might think this is your future. This is maternity clothes, shopping for teething rings, juggling school and a newborn, finding a babysitter you can trust, the possibility that Timothy might want nothing to do with either of you, and don't get me started on your parents... you're mad cause you want my honest opinion right? I don't think you should do this- is that what you wanted me to say?"

Hugging him back Jill sobbed. "Do you think I'm a terrible person?"

"No. You're allowed to put yourself first, Jillian." Kissing her forehead again Jonas sighed. "You're allowed to put yourself first."

I'm alive and I've kinda been a bit of a writing slump but I kind of climbed back out of it and I can't say much but I got a lot done, just know that.

Anyway, I kind of like writing soft scenes like this where the character's ideals conflict and they bounce off one another in dialogue. Jill never had as big a role in the original story and I love that I'm able to take more time building her up. But can we talk about how she drove around in a panda onsie at like twelve in the afternoon, like she's on a level I can only aspire to be on.

The situation is portrayed so well, their friendship super strong! I'm with him there - it's her decision especially considering that her and Timmy don't seem to be doing all that well... hope she'll be alright and content with her choice either way

Jonas ran into Schuyler at the bus stop, like, he literally ran into the man.

After cracking his new phone's screen and accidentally giving the man a bloody nose Jonas asks to take him out to lunch as an apology and later exchange numbers. It's while at a party that Jonas calls the man again and in the confines of a bathroom with nothing but thin apartment walls and a city between them the two make confessions about themselves as strangers and quickly become fast friends.

It's only when Jonas starts to question his own feelings that he decides maybe there's more to this Schuyler guy than his clumsiness and his tendency to apologize way too much.
