Eliza:
I opened my eyes the darkness filling my eyes. For a moment I thought I might still me sleeping but the sound of my own breath and the wrinkling of the blanket beneath me proved that I was not. For the next few moments I simple sat there staring up into the darkness of my vision.
After a while I stood up walking around feeling the wall for anything but there was nothing but walls and even more walls. FInally after running my hand along the wall I found a door. It was a large metal door with no window and no doorknob. I continued walking past the door for anything else but just like the other wall there was nothing there. After going all the way around the room I sat down not knowing what else to do or look for, there was nothing there and no way out. I didn’t know what I was going to do. What could I do?
“Eliza,” a voice said snapping me out of my thoughts. “It's time to get up, it's time to practice.”
A bright light turned on revealing the wide white room, only the one metal door just as I had found, and empty room with nothing in it. The door was open with a older man his face gaunt and pale making him appear like he was dying but his expression was stern and scary.
I looked away from the man and into the middle of the room noticed myself. I had long red hair that reached down to my lower thigh and my skin pale and bruised. My eyes were dull and lifeless as I stared at the man at the door. I looked away from her and to the man again, who had now come into the room two men behind him. They shut the door behind them before backing off and leaving the man to walk closer to the her and she sat up on her knees.
“Show me,” he demanded but when she did nothing he slapped her sending her head to the side, “Show me!”
She turned her head looking back at him before holding out her hand. She closed her eyes and when she opened they a flame burned in the center of her palm.
My eyes went wide as I looked down at my own hand imagining how I had done that. Since the day I watched myself control electricity I hadn’t been able to recreate it but know I also had fire. Did I have all the elements or just those two.
“Next,” the man said snapping me out of my wonder. I looked down at her waiting to see what happened next. What else would I learn. I watched as water appeared all around her hand spiraling and waving in all direction. The man simply smiled writing something down a a clipboard in his hands, how long did he have that, before telling her to do the next. Each time something new came, a spiral of wind, and small vine wrapping around her hand like a snake. I didn’t understand how she was doing all of this but I wanted to learn so that I could do it as well. The only question was how did I do it?
After she seemed down the man put the clipboard at his side walking over to the girl kneeling down next to her grabbing her by the hair and pulling her head up.
“You did good today, now show me how you can use it in a fight.” he let go of her head standing up and walking over to the guards sending them both over to her ready to attack. The first man stepped forward grabbing her by the hair pulling her head up the other fist ready to strike her but before he could he burst into flames. For a second the second guard steeped back her face reading fear, but he came forward again grabbing a knife from his back pocket holding it up ready to attack.
He rushed at her swinging the knife caughting her in the face leaving a cut on her cheek. He turned back and got ready to go again but before he could she rolled back and away form his attack holding her hand out as water splashed out engulfing him with water as he struggled trying to find a way out. She let her hand drop the water falling to the floor no longer moving. The man laid on the ground still breathing but unconscious.
A loud clapping filled the room as the man stood by the doorway a smile on his face as he had watched her almost kill his men. He hadn’t even flinched. Before anyone could do anything the door swung open and he walked out leaving ehr and the two men in there alone.
Once the man was gone she fell to the ground laying on her back breathing out heavily as she tried to breath. She slowly lifted her hand to her cheek feeling the blood running down her face out of the cut. I lifted my hand to feeling my cheek a stinging present in but no cut of blood.
Suddenly the lights turned of just as they had turned off leaving me in nothing but darkness once again.
Slowly I opened my eyes staring at the ceiling.
“Eliza,” a voice said from beside me. I looked over and straight at Minho who was shaking me by the shoulders. I sat up not quite sure what he was doing.
“What is going on?”
“You have to go cook or Fry Pan is going to get upset.” as soon as the words left his mouth my eyes grew wide and I basically jumped out of bed, the thoughts of my dream leaving my mind. He let out a laugh watching me struggle to find my jacket. “Eliza,” he said as I turned around looking at him, my jacket in his hand.
“You jerk you had it the whole time.” I snatched the jacket from his grasp heading out him following behind me as I walked to the kitchen. By the time I got there Frypan was already cooking breakfast but He didn’t have to tell me anything before I started the eggs right next to the pan of bacon next to it. He looked over at me smiling as we continued to cook without saying much just small things for what we needed to do. When we were all done we cleaned up and began talking a little about everything that had been happening, especially the night in the maze and the grievers.
After everything was done I headed out of the kitchen and to the Med-Jack to check up on Alby. I walked in and saw Alby sitting up in the bed. My eyes went wide as I stopped in my tracks not knowing what to do, I had never expected him to already be up and it surprised me that he was. Once I got a hold of myself I ran over to him and gave him a large hug asking him if he was okay or if he needed anything.
“Get away!” he shouted as me pushing me away.
I feel onto the floor just looking up at him as he glared down at me. For a moment I just sat there not knowing what to do, I didn’t understand why he had done that. I slowly got back on my feet looking at Alby. “What is wrong Alby?”
“What’s wrong? What's wrong is that you aren’t supposed to be here. It's all your fault.” he was screaming now. He stood up grabbing me by the arms as he continued to tell me how I was evil and it was all my fault.
“Alby let go your hurting me,” I said my voice cracking as I tried not to cry.
He didn’t let go though in fact he only grabbed harder preventing me from squirming out of his grasp.
“Why are you here Eliza! Why did you come back!” I looked away tears starting to form. “Did you come to rub it in our faces that you are here and okay! Why!”
“I...I...I didn’t mean to.” my voice quite as tears fell. He let go of my arms sending me onto the ground again. I didn’t look up, didn’t move but I knew that Alby left. I had seen his feet walk past me as he left me there on the ground crying. I couldn’t move couldn’t cry out for anyone, all I could do was sit on the cold ground tears falling out of my eyes.
“Eliza!” a voice shouted bringing me out of my thoughts. I looked up meeting the eyes of the man who always made me feel better, but couldn’t this time. He rushed over kneeling on the ground next to me, as I pulled my sleeve down father making sure to cover up the bruises that had definitely left on my arms, I didn’t want Minho to see them and blame himself for them because I knew he would.
He reached out his hands to grab hold of me but I flinched back, not even meaning to, his face sadded as he looked at me. I could see the hurt in his eyes as he looked at me tears still falling out of my eyes.
“What happened?” his voice quite and calm as he sat across from me patiently.
“I...I came to see...Al...Alby. When I came...came in he was already awake.” my voice growing stronger the more I talked, “When he saw me he shoved me away and started to yell at me telling me it was my fault and I shouldn’t be here. It’s just like Kile.”
“Hey, look at me.” he said placing his hand on mine, I didn’t pull back this time. “They are wrong. Whatever you did before you forgot and now you are different.”
I nodded at him but knew that no matter what he said he was wrong. I had done so many bad things that I could never take back and fix. He had no idea how many of them I had sent here, how many I had watched die as I sat back doing nothing but taking notes. Alby was right I had right to be here with them all. I had no right to call myself their friends and ally. What had I done to deserve that title?
“Hey you still there?” Minho said placing his hand on my check.
“Yes,, sorry just thinking.”
“It’s time for lunch. Frypan sent me to find you after no one had seen you for a while.”
“I’m sorry for making you all worry, I’m fine now.” I could tell by the face Minho had that he didn’t believe me but I didn’t know what else to say. If I told him I wasn’t fine he would never let me out of his sight again, it was the only thing I could say. Either way it didn’t matter, I wasn’t going to be okay at least not for a while and there is really nothing that Minho can do to help me right now. This is something that I must take care of myself.
It was my turn to decide my fate and take control of it, I wouldn't let anyone else decide what was going to happen to me and I sure wasn't going to let them tell me what to do. I am going to step up and stop being so weak and helpless I will take care of myself for once.
It’s my turn to help out.
