I bit his hand. He screamed, and so did I from the pain that set the inside of my mouth ablaze. The heat that came from his skin made my tongue sizzle and burn, until it fell to the floor. There was blood. So much blood that I’m sure I would have tasted iron if I still could.
It was difficult to register this as reality.
Was this truly happening?
Or was it just a dream?
Someone burst into the room.
I was ready for the end, when I saw Nova.
She quickly picked up on the situation. Her features grew grim. “Leith,” she said. “Close your eyes.”
A) But I couldn’t trust her anymore. If she was here, then maybe they were working together. I chose to believe in no one, and I waited—to see what she would do. To see what they would do.
B) I chose to trust Nova and did what she asked of me. The world went dark. I saw spots behind my eyelids. Everything hurt, and I wondered if I would pass out again.
C) The young man was distracted by Nova’s demand. Instead of shutting my eyes, I decided to disappear and leave them both behind.
