I awake from the blanket of darkness by the sounds from above me. There is shouting and I can make out three different voices. Despite the voices being heard from somewhere above me; I try to stay quiet and still, because that is what I'm told to do.
In the meantime, I started to count.
11. I'm glad to wake up again.
Somewhere in my mind, something is telling me to scream as loud as my voice will allow me. But I don't want to risk my life for it. It could be help me or it could be his friends just arguing over a game.
Either way, I'd rather be silent and take my chances with the dark shadows.
12. I'm glad it's not just me and him anymore.
I'm startled out of my thoughts when I hear a loud, shattering noise- that's quickly followed by steps becoming close and louder to my humdrum ears. My breathing pick up a quick rhythm as the hurried steps come closer and light shines through my room.
13. I'm glad there's light.
"Kye, we are going somewhere" he says as he picks up my cage with ease from the side. His fingers curl around the side of the cage and I adjust to the middle so I wouldn't have to touch his hands.
"Where are we going?" my voice sounds as strong as thin ice. I wince at the sound and let my mind wondered. Every since entering this place, I've been confined to this room and cage. I can't remember the last time I felt the sun's rays kiss my skin. I smiled at the thought but hid it when I noticed the man look at me with his teal eyes- anger shining brightly like the moon in the sky.
"Kye, I want you to ask no more questions. Answer when spoken to, but only to me. Speak to anyone else and I will put you in an oven again. Do you understand me?" he shook the cage roughly as I hit the bars and my head knocked into the side. Crimson rushed down my head my right eye as I tried to look at him.
"Yes, Sir" I touched my forehead and found my finger tips bright red, dripping with rubies. He stopped shaking the cage and I looked up to see him smiling.
"Good boy. Once we get out, you'll be my bird forever" He gave me an eerie smile that registered through my cracked eyes. "Now stay quiet" he put the cage under his arm and my head slid and hit the cage bars again. Every step he took, my blood would run and slip through the bars, leaving an evidence trail behind us. I wanted to tell him to stop moving so fast but I knew he wouldn't listen. My soul already defeated, I began to slip into slumber when he rattled the cage.
"I need you awake" was all he said.
A sigh passed through my lips as I turned my head away from him. I looked behind us and saw a man and a lady come down the stairs of the long corridor him and I were traveling through. The man looked at the floor and closed his eyes as the lady did the same.
They seemed to be sniffing?
Immediately their eyes opened and they zeroed in on me. I sucked in a breath to say something but then I remembered that he told me not to say a word.
I covered my mouth with my hands as their eyes bore into me. Their eyes widened before they started speaking frantically.
I watched as the lady pointed to the blood spatter on the ground that trickled from my head. The man balled his fist and started walking- almost sprinting- towards us.
My head hit the top of the cage and I bit my palms from screaming in agony.
"Hey Jeremy! I'm not done with you yet!" the man yelled and starting full blown running towards us.
"Oh shit" he, or Jeremy, mumbled as he clutched my cage tighter and starting running. I grabbed onto the bars with all my might as I tried to stop sliding in my little cage. Jeremy started running fast as the man and the lady's voice mingled into each other and were coming closer to us.
Jeremy pushed open a door and I saw something I never thought I'd see ever again.
Sunlight.
It hit my skin and I instantly felt whole, despite me being in a cage. It was like God smiled down on me and the sunlight was just a reflection his teeth hitting a light. Instead of being cold, like I usually am, the sun kissed my skin and embraced it like a child coming home after being kidnapped for so long.
If only I could feel this all the time. I knew deep down I wouldn't see it anymore while I lived in this cage.
No Kye! Positive Thoughts!
14. At least I can feel the sun.
Everything came to a halt and suddenly I was airborne.
My cage suddenly fell against the ground a rolled before getting stuck on a rock. My head was spinning and the gash on my head seemed to have gotten bigger because everything I saw was red.
15. At least I can still see.
I looked to my right and saw the man that was chasing us, tackle Jeremy to the ground. The lady looked around before spotting me and running over. Even though I got a 'safe vibe' from her, I couldn't get near her only because I thought she would hurt me. I backed to the farthest side of the cage and shook my head at her. Blood splattered like a sprinkler and got on her face. She closed her eyes and scrunched her face before opening them.
"Kye! Don't you dare say a word!" Jeremy yelled before the man hit Jeremy in the neck. Jeremy slumped over and fell onto the ground leaving the man panting.
"Come on please. We are trying to help you, please" the lady begged. I looked at her and took in her soft face and big brown eyes as she stuck an olive skinned hand through the bar and held her hand out for me to take. I whimpered as pain nicked my brain and left it rattling in my skull.
The man came over to us slowly and knelt down to eye level. He had black hair that went everywhere and emerald eyes that looked sincere as the lady's.
"Please Donna. Let me try" the lady, or Donna, shrugged and retraced her arm before standing up. The man crouched and gave me a genuine smile before his smile reached his eyes.
"Hi! I'm Kyle. And this is my ma-wife Donna. I'm guessing you are Kye?" he asked.
I was breathing hard due to my blood wound getting worst by the second. I couldn't open my right eye because blood kept coming down and I was afraid of getting it in my eye. My long black hair matted it and mixed with the sweat on my brow. I tried to move my hair out of my face but it only caused the blood to run quicker down my fragile body. The trail of red left a crimson stain on my body and I was starting to see stars.
16. I'm glad I can see the twinkling of stars so close.
I think I nodded slowly because when my vision somewhat focused, Donna and Kyle were looking at me with concern.
"Well, Kye; you need medical attention. We can't help you if you won't let us though. Will you let us help you?" Kyle asked.
I looked at Kyle, then at Donna, then back at Kyle. No one has ever treated me with such kindness before. Granted, my world began and ended with the man who lay a few feet away but I was immediately welcoming the newcomers who chased me into the sun.
I smiled wide at their kindness before feeling something dribble out the sides of my mouth.
"Kyle, I can't wait anymore" Donna said as she started pulling at the bars. I don't know why she was trying- I've tried that plenty of times and the bars won't budge.
But somehow, it could've been from the magical stars, the bars pulled apart and left a gaping hole.
I felt hands on me and a pulling motion. A hand rested under my head and supported it while my entire body was being pulled out of my cage. I felt myself being cradled against a chest as my eyes wandered everywhere but their faces.
"Kye, I need you to stay with us" Donna said as I saw tears in her eyes.
Why was she crying?
I didn't get to continue my thought because my mind quit on me. My eyes rolled under the covers and lulled me to sleep.
