Chapter 4: Reminiscing on Chaos’s Beginnings
“Sometimes things happen, and people make choices that sculpt the future of all mankind. The simple thoughts of loving thy neighbor, and doing what is best is at times clouded by greed, and lust for the power to control over the very essence that truly makes us a unique species.”
For the first time in the history of technology; the Internet is finally being used to its full potential. A five year project that has been hidden away in the shadows is finally being brought to light on Saturday at the grey house school of future technological achievements. The creators and programmers of this wonderful virtual reality machine said in a press conference. “We wanted a place for the world to be as one. Imagine the pin-pal you have in Russia, or the online girlfriend that lives in Japan; now imagine you could through our VR machine talk and laugh with your friend from Russia, or even kiss and touch your girlfriend from Japan, and both parties feel, and sense as if each other were there in reality.”
The program has caught the attention of many after a test run was shown in-front of a live audience. The participants shocked the crowd as they viewed the overhead screen of both people in a grassy plain giving each other a hug, and what really shocked the audience was the two volunteers were both in wheel chairs, and running, playing around as if they were kids. They were hooked up to sensors to show the reactions of variables within the virtual world. The crowd was in awe to see that the virtual world was in sync to the reactions from the participants.
The volunteers were then brought out of the world with ease, and asked a couple of questions referring to their experience within the virtual world. One had said “The grass felt real and the wind against my skin, and the hug I shared with the other was again so eerily real.” The program is scheduled for launch in the next six months. “Turn that shit off, and get back to work Steven!”
My name is Steven Patterson, and I work with a unique group of scientists that are trying to find a way to unlock the untapped parts of the human brain. Can you imagine a super race of high intelligent humans that have full control over the aspects of the mind and body. I have devoted my life to finding the missing keys to this, and now after years of hard work, and overwhelming failures we are so close to achieving what was deemed impossible; to make ourselves into gods. Of course we had to move our research into the shadows, cause of god fearing people that thought our work was of the devil, but proves ever more that we are in an evolutionary decline within our species.
They ridicule our work, but they praise the work of a virtual reality machine that can bond mankind in a digital world; what utter nonsense that is, but we can not toy within the outside world; not right now when we are so close, and we believe that we have done it, but we have to have another patient come in to either be the first god among men, or be a brain dead coma patient that is bound to a life that would be worse than death. I should feel bad, and I kind of do, but this is science, and they are willing test subjects that volunteer to be injected for that idea of god-hood.
“Patient number 86 is ready for injection”
Excellent, I have a good feeling this time; this time it will work, and we will have achieved the impossible once and for all. I walk into the over crowded room with number 86 laying on the table. “Put the straps on number 86 to secure him from the post-violent rage” after I say this the patients always give me that look, and I can tell the first thing that has went into their mind. “What have I got myself into?” but I look to him and say “What is your name” he replies “My name is John, John Carver” I hold his hand and tell him a lie “Everything is going to be just fine John, just try and relax.” I think he knew I was lying, but he has that subconscious need to trust what a doctor has told him.
I help secure the straps tight around him, cause we don’t want him to into a rage and hurt any of us while the serum travels through his system. As I tighten the final strap I gaze into his green eyes, and I see regret, and fear. I place my hand into his and grip to tell another lie for his false security “Your gonna make it through this John.” I talked to him using his name to ease his mind, and to look at me as a friend instead of this horrible monster that just tied him to a metal bed where so many before him met their end.
I grab the syringe and fill it with the omega-S chemical, as we call it. “It has to work this time.” I repeat over and over in my head as I slide the needle into his neck. We all watch the monitors at his vitals; we wait for the chemical to enter his heart and brain. The first stage suddenly happens were the intense pain sets in; like fire being ran into his body. John screams and starts fighting, but the straps are holding him in place, and he cannot escape this fate, this hell that he volunteered to partake in. None of us look at him, we all stare at the monitor, cause we have seen this many times; it is like second nature to us now; we are monsters with a purpose.
John’s vitals begin to calm as the serum has made it way into his system successfully, and now John begins stage two of his transformation; the rapid rebuilding and construction of old and new cells. John’s body begins to shake violently as each muscle spasm becomes uncontrollable. John once again becomes victim to his own body, and we do nothing but look at the monitors. after 15 minutes of John having seizure after seizure the omega-S chemical re-balances his inner-structure. We look to the monitors in shock; no one has ever made it to stage three of the progress. At this point I walk over to John and grab his hand; he looks at me for a second with tears running down his eyes then turns away. “Your gonna make it through this John, your a fighter.”
John suddenly turned his head over to me, and I saw that his eyes were rolled in the back of his head. I rushed over to the monitor to see that is vitals were normal, and stable, I looked at his brain-wave pattern and it is in the green and normal. Suddenly the monitors all went blank; no heartbeat, no brain-waves, no nothing. We all turned to look at John to see that he is gone, and the straps were un-buckled; like someone, or something un-binded him. We were in shock to this, we walked to the table when the emergency lights started to flash red, and the siren began to scream aloud. I then hear screams behind me, and as I turn around I see John ripping my colleagues apart as if they were nothing to him. I witness a bloody mess unfold in-front of me and I watch as John slowly rises to his feet and whispers to himself, but I couldn’t make out what he was saying; like he was talking in tongues.
John suddenly opened his eyes and they glowed a bright red, as if he had become some sort of demon. He sprinted pass me and grabbed the two massive containers that we held the concentrated, unresolved omega-S chemical in and took ahold of them like they were paper weights then sprinted back pass me running outside of the facility. I followed the best I could, but John was far too fast for me, but eventually I caught up to him at the pond across from the facility. John turned around and began to whisper in tongues again then squatted down as if he was about to leap. John suddenly looked up at me and screamed “You shall pay for the sins by a river of blood.” John suddenly jumped and threw one container into the air so far that it could not be seen. An evil smile came across his face as he jumped again and threw the second into the air out of sight.
A few seconds later an explosion happened, and as I looked up I saw the omega-S chemical begin to rapidly expand the sky. It’s accelerated speed was a beautiful sight, and as I look back to John I see that he had rammed his hand into my chest so fast and hard that I didn’t even feel it happen. The pain set in soon after he had pulled out my beating heart from my chest. I looked only for a second, as the blood poured out of the large gaping cavity in my chest; like a river of blood. I found myself smiling as the darkness engulfed my vision, and the last thing I saw was this beautiful monster we created walking away with my lifeless heart in his possession.
(The screams filled the air as the omega-S infused major populations; crumbling them, dwindling them to only handfuls, yet the handfuls that remain become highly intelligent god-like humans, and thus a society became formed from the ones that remained, and like gods they began to build empires on their new earth, yet they also began to feel pity for the major population that fell victim to the chemical, and put them into a coma like state, and thus they built “shrines” on every continent, where the coma-ridden masses would be connected to the virtual reality machines that had been created; given the fallen a safe haven to live the life that was stolen from them.)
