"That was amazing today," Jack exclaims as he unlocks the door to our apartment and begins taking off his boots. "You never fail to surprise me."
"I just did what I knew to do," I reply with a small shrug. "It works every time."
"Not everyone can do what you do Troye," Jack responds. "You have a serious talent with mentoring."
"Maybe I missed my calling after all," I tease.
Jack sends me a serious look that renders me motionless. "You didn't miss your calling. Beautiful things deserve to be seen."
When I failed to articulate meaningful words in response, Jack simply smiled and walked off down the hall. "I'm going to make dinner. It's my turn tonight."
After recovering from Jack's moment of seriousness, I head into the bathroom to take a shower, loving the feeling of washing away all the makeup and product from my body and feeling clean again.
When I'm done, I dress in an old pair of sweats and a hoodie that I like to wear for comfort. I'm in the middle of trying to tame my hair when my phone sounds from my nightstand.
I pick it up to see that I had received another message from the guy I met earlier on the dating website. Gabriel.
Hey :) What are you up to? It read.
Instead of replying on my phone, I toss it to the side and grab my laptop before perching myself in the middle of my bed. Opening the laptop, I log into my profile and click on my Inbox.
Hey, how are you?
His reply is almost instant. I'd be better if you were here :)
I'm taken aback by his boldness, but it doesn't scare me off. Is that so?
Very :)
I let out a small laugh. Suddenly another message from Gabriel comes through before I have a chance to type out my response.
So despite how attractive you are, you can't just be that so tell me about yourself.
I'm typing my response before I've even finished reading. My name is Troye Evans, I'm a model and I live in LA, California.
Gabriel's reply is instant. You're a model!? No way! Are you that Troye Evans?? I've seen you in fashion week on TV before!
I was as surprised as I was amused. You know who I am?
His next message has me smiling unknowingly. Duh! You're the super attractive model on the cover of the Vogue magazine that's currently sitting on my coffee table :)
I couldn't help but laugh at that one. He must have the current issue of Vogue which I did a shoot for a few weeks ago. Its release was two days ago but I was yet to pick up a copy.
So you're in LA huh? I guess we're far from neighbours. I'm in New York.
I'm about to start typing my reply when a soft knock sounds at the door and Jack pops his head in. "Hey, dinner's read-what are you laughing at?"
I look up, the gleeful smile still plastered on my face. "This Gabriel guy is pretty funny."
Jack crosses his arms over his chest as he leans in my doorway. "Oh, you're talking to Gabriel still?"
"He messaged me this afternoon. He wants to get to know me."
"Is that so?"
I look up, surprised by the slight animosity held in Jack's tone, though his face gives nothing away. "What's the matter?"
"What? Nothing." Jack replies and goes to leave the room.
"Jack," I roll sideways off my bed and catch his arm before he can leave. "Talk to me."
"It's nothing Troye, just leave it." Jack replies but I didn't come this far being his friend by not seeing through the walls he tries to put up around his feelings.
"Jack, please tell me."
My roommate sighs. "It's just, you seem to already have a connection with this guy and you only signed up to the site last night. I guess I'm just jealous."
"Is this because you haven't talked to anyone like that yet?"
He shrugs. "I guess so."
I pat his shoulder gently and smile at him. "Jack, you will find the right person. When the time is right, they'll come along and sweep you off your feet and you won't think twice about some silly messages on a dating website. I promise."
Jack only lets out a laugh and nudges my shoulder playfully. "Alright, whatever you say. C'mon, dinner's ready."
Judging from his tone, I knew Jack hadn't completely dismissed whatever he was feeling but I knew better than to push him. Instead, I followed him out to the kitchen where we ate his freshly-cooked dinner on the couch.
I put on a reality show. I didn't care for them, but Jack liked to laugh at the stupidity of the concept so I didn't mind watching as we ate.
After dinner I head back to my bedroom and set up my laptop again, heading to my inbox so I could reply to Gabriel. I smile when I see the new message.
So other than being a super hot model that I may or may not fantasise about from time to time, what are your hobbies?
I laugh and begin typing my reply. I know that not every guy is like Gabriel but right now this is what I needed and maybe, just maybe, dating someone knew wouldn't be as bad as I thought.
