Beep… Beep… Beep… Beep…
Jared’s body felt heavy. His eyes remaining closed as he groaned softly to himself.
Beep… Beep…
Growing annoyed by hearing some odd beeping that sounded just like a heart monitor, Jared felt anxiety. He shot his eyes open, but blinded from bright fluorescent lights above him. Panic started to over take him.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
Looking down at his arms, an IV was hooked into the back of his left hand, a hospital wrist band on the right. Being covered up by the plain, thin white sheets, with a hospital gown covering his body, he started to panic even harder. His heart increasing as it could be heard through the monitor. Hearing a sliding door open, a privacy sheet was rushed off to the side by a female nurse. Jared was startled.
“HEY! WHY DID YOU FUCKING PUNCH ME?!” Jared shouted at the female nurse who looked exactly like the woman in his van. The female nurse just looked at him with worry in her eye as she approved his monitor.
“Sir, please stay calm. I know this must be all confusing to you. But you really need to calm down.” The female’s face suddenly changed to appear more middle age. Nothing was the same… She had grey hair, clearly African American, just barely 5 feet tall. This was not the same woman. Jared’s eyes widened as his breathing got deeper and intense. Panic struck him hard. He didn’t know what was happening. The nurse straight up looked like the female from before.
“I’m your nurse, Isis. Can you please tell me your name and date of birth?” Walking away from the monitor, she took out her equipment and started taking his vitals.
“Jared…. Jared Evans…. November 13th… 1992... “ Jared felt disgusted with himself and confused as his memory was being extremely hazy. He remembers some woman, punching him. How did he get to the hospital? “Uhm…. H-How did I get here?”
Finishing Jared’s vitals, Isis patted his shoulder gently shaking her head. A knock at the sliding door could be heard.
“Excuse me. But I need to ask Mr. Evans some questions.” A local police officer entered Jared’s room. Holding his belt with both hands as he nodded his head to the nurse. Isis smiled to Jared before leaving the room.
The police officer closed the sliding door behind him with the curtain giving full privacy. His hair was solid black, a beard that was well maintained. He stood around 6 foot 2 inches. Built full of muscle as his uniform sat against his body perfectly in form. Clearing his throat the officer catch Jared’s full attention.
“Names Lt. Gerald. Mr. Evans, can you recall any information prior to where you are now?” Lt. Gerald clearly meant business. If the air wasn’t stale and tense, it sure was now in the tiny hospital room.
“I… I was visiting the Cemetery… Started to rain so I headed down towards my van… And I slipped.” Jared rubbed his head as he was trying to remember but, everything started to go hazy. “But… There… There was this woman… I… I can’t remember exactly what she looks like… She never gave me a name but after getting to my van... “ Jared’s voice felt heavy as he had to admit this out loud. “She punched me. Last thing I knew she punched me in my bed and well, here I am now officer.”
Jared was never one to go against the law. He knew that their job was important and dangerous in this town.
“A woman?” Lt. Gerald’s voice sounded curious. “Do you have any other information on this individual?”
“No… Sorry Lt. I can’t exactly remember… Do you know why I am here?”
“Well, we had a call about a trespasser with a G20 Chevy. Your vehicle Mr. Evans. We showed up at the scene and found you incapacitated.”
“Oh…” Jared felt completely defeated by his weakness. “But… There was no female around me?”
Lt. Gerald raised a brow before clearing his throat. “No. There was no other personnel around you or your vehicle.”
After speaking to Lt. Gerald, Jared was finally left alone. He wasn’t in trouble after explaining everything and why he visited the Cemetery. Apparently the Owner wasn’t upset. Just concerned as no one has asked permission and that apparently Jared was out for several hours and was assumed to be a squatter.
Laying in the bed now completely alone, he peered out the tiny hospital window that had bars on the outside. He sighed heavily as his head fell back against the pillow. Closing his eyes he couldn’t muster any energy. Losing his Grandfather… Now in a terrible situation stuck in a hospital until they deemed him “Fit” to be released. All he could do was lay there, staring out that tiny window. Wishing to be in his own bed.
