After Yuki made his grand exit, it took every fiber of his being to hold back the want to chase after him. His father went too far. If only it was possible to change his mind.
But he couldn't.
If he outed his true feelings towards the whole idea who knows what might be in store for him. Thrown in the dungeon for solitary confinement to which he would be urged to rethink how he felt? Or worse. Execution for actions against the law of the crown? It wasn't as if he was even the favorite child. He knew all his life everyone loved Ryu more.
His cheerful smile.
His energy.
It was sickening.
It wasn't as if Vayne hated his elder brother. It was quite the contrary. He loved him with all his heart, yet still he envied the attention Ryu would be showered while he himself was built to be a fighter and nothing more.
If Ryu was in his place and it was instead himself who died, if Ryu went against their father all he would get was a slap on the wrist. A stern talking to. Hell, their father might have even listened to his eldest son.
Knowing this full well, Vayne kept his will and thoughts to himself until dismissed. Once night fell and after sticking his head outside, finding that it was now raining, Vayne hightailed his way towards the stable, stole himself a horse and made off in the direction he knew the other party went. He wanted to make fully certain they made cover and didn't continue on anyway despite the weather. It was a thing he knew Yuki would drive himself to do. The other hated being idle.
Making his way through the rain, the prince made his way down the path recently trodden on. It was obvious it was recently used; horse hoof prints decorated the mud road. They were being washed away by the rain, but were still there.
To his left, towards the river his attention was grabbed by a shout of despair. Taking note of the familiar tone of voice, the brunet dismounted, tied the reins of his saddle to a nearby tree and slowly made off in the direction of the river.
Closing in on the grunts filled with displeasure, Vayne hid himself behind a nearby tree to watch the scene before jumping in.
Yuki was doing what appeared to be some sort of attempt at magic.
Creation magic.
And by the looks of it, things weren't going so well for him.
The other prince held a stick in one hand, perhaps using the shape as reference for a blade or something similar. Yet despite his effort, each time the faint shape of a sword would form before the outlining crumbled and the shape is lost.
As the other let out a rather deep sigh, Vayne decided to make his presence known. Stepping out from his hiding spot, he rested his thumb and forefinger against his chin and scratched at his scruff of a beard. "You know, I think it would do you well to have more confidence and concentration." At the noise, the other male immediately pointed his stick in the direction of the voice.
Sticks. The ultimate combat weapon.
Vayne chuckled and pointed towards the raven haired man's hand. "You also may wish to think twice about threatening someone with that."
Yuki huffed and increased pressure on his grip. "If I wanted to I could do serious damage to you with this."
"I don't believe that one bit." Vayne stepped closer, laid his hand atop the makeshift weapon and locked eyes. "Let go. If you really want, I can help you." Just to test his luck, he even inched a finger closer to the paler man's own. Once the contact was made, Yuki panicked and let go of the stick.
"Don't touch me." He glared and rubbed his hand.
'Cold.' The only thought rushing through the mind of the younger prince. Whether it be because his own body temperature was naturally high or that the others was just as naturally low, it mattered not. The clashing temperature felt calming. It amused him as well watching the look of satisfaction to the touch turn quickly to confusion in Yuki's face.
"Let me help you."
"Why the hell should I accept help from you?"
"It is what Ryu would want-"
Rushing forward, Yuki grabbed the front of Vayne's coat with his fists. "You don't get to tell me what he would want! You aren't a replacement for him either, so don't start spouting that shit at me eith-"
His rant was cut off as warm lips were pressed against cold. Yuki froze, unable to comprehend what was going on. It was a chaste kiss. Nothing fancy. His main goal was just to force the other to calm. Breaking apart, Vayne grinned and smiled as the Vesperian prince grew a few shades darker in cheek color.
"I never said I wanted to replace him. I just want to help you, for my own selfish reasons." Taking his hands in his own, Vayne placed a kiss atop his hand. "Just remember this, and come looking for me if you find you wish for some...more pleasurable company." Pulling away, he chuckled as Yuki slowly regained composure.
And while Vayne departed as fast as he appeared, Yuki screamed his own goodbye.
"I'll ask for your help only in your dreams!"
