That day at lunch

I get my food and sit next to Quade but he ignores me, so I poke him. That seems to get his attention. “Oh hi!”

“Hi” I whisper. “Does anyone know about the wings?”

“No. Partly because I’m part dragon and can erase the memories of anyone/thing I want but it’s no big deal.”

“No way oh by the way, brace yourself!”

“For what?”

“3...2...1…”

Random person “FOOD FIGHT!”

We all picked up the food on our trays “FIRE!” I yell.

“What the heck is happening?”

“Oh you wouldn’t know because you always skip lunch up until this point, but you know how everyday we all have to take a shower? This is why”

“So the guards don’t care?”

“Nope! This is every day!”After lunch we go back to Quade’s cell, and we sit on his “bed” and determine how we would escape.

It’s not like it will be hard to escape this dumb kids prison anyway. I already know how to get out without a trace of leaving. Although I do sort of want to know what he is in for. But details are unimportant right now. All we need to do is sneak to my cell grab my journal and get out.

Today is the day we escape I think to myself completely forgetting the question lingering in my mind. What was Quade in for? They always announce what the kids are in for and I was listening attentively, but they just forgot.

Quaid’s mind

When the time finally comes to get out of this hell I beg the guards I’m literally down on my knees begging them to go see Zayd, and in the end let me. I just hope he doesn’t ask me what I’m in for he’s a really nice guy, but I am wondering what the heck he’s in for. I just can’t bear the thought of disgust on his face when he learns I killed everyone in my town.

Back to Zayd

“Hey.” I say

“Hey.”

“You know what?”

“What?”

“I never asked what you are in for.”

“Um, well why- why worry about details. I’m sure you really wouldn’t mind waiting to know what I’m in for.”

“I’ll tell you what I'm in for then.” I announce “ I AM IN FOR SETTING FIRE TO A SCHOOL AND LIKE, 4 OTHER BUILDINGS!”

“Wow.”

“Yeah. Ok let’s move.”

“Yeah,” he replies but I really don’t know if he’s sold on it or not, I think he’s just shaken up after that amazing description of what I’m in for. So we make our move and slide through my window with a bag of food and somehow Quade got hold of $20. We are finally free, then we run. We run like our lives depend on them (which they sort of do) then I remember, Quade has wings.“Quade!”
