The noise Adrien made sounded like a mix of bark and howl, and... he didn't seem to stop. It earned him a raised brow from Zephira and a laugh from Otto. Cora jumped up from her seat with Honey and all but tackled me.
"Oh thank god, I didn't want to imagine you trying to handle this on your own." She exclaimed, seeming to be a lot more emotional about this than the situation called for.
"She doesn't mean to make it as scary as it sounds," Honey explained, tucking an auburn lock behind her ear.
"Oh! No, I don't want to scare you, I just... it can be hard when you have a life-altering change and there's no one you can turn to for support." Cora released me from her embrace as she spoke, her cheeks flushed.
I'm sure I didn't look much better with how red my own cheeks were. Cora sounded sincere as if she had gone through something similar before.
"Now, if you're done falling over her, we still have things to go over," Zephira interjected, having moved to take a seat beside Val. Dog Adrien took that as a hint to take off to the other room, moments later returning clothed and human.
Cora, on the other hand, moved back to her original seat with Honey. Their eyes turned away from me and back to their Alpha.... I suppose my Alpha now too.
"Adrien's going to take you home, I'm sure you want to start piecing your life together. Expect Val to stop by tomorrow to explain things to you." Zephira pinched the bridge of her nose, the stress of the situation seemed to get to her. "I have to make some calls, see if any of the other packs have a clue what happened."
I nodded, not much else to do now. I turned my eyes towards Adrien, standing there grinning from ear to ear. I wasn't sure how much I could trust him... if at all.
"You know where I live then?" I asked, moving to stand.
"Yeah, you live in the apartment over my studio." He replied nonchalantly. I raised a brow but no one else seemed to have an answer.
"Convenient... " There was hesitation in my voice. I could leave with him and he could be lying. He could be taking me anywhere... but so far he seemed to be the only one willing to try and break down the walls of my memories.
"It's a pretty far drive... we should probably head out." He almost looked sheepish as he waited for me to move. I glanced around the room at the others. They seemed to be sticking around, only Val moved to stand as well.
"I'll pick you up tomorrow at six pm, have your questions ready." He said, handing me a small card as well. "My numbers on this, if you have any problems call it. I'll show up."
His tone told me nothing. If Val was upset by the arrangement he didn't give it away for a second.
"Thank you..." I said, accepting the card. Adrien didn't seem to look pleased by the exchange but didn't move to intrude either.
"You deserve better than this," Val added as he walked away. His voice was neutral as ever, what could he mean by that? I guess I could add it to the list of questions I had.
Turning back to Adrien, his face was a mixture of surprise and annoyance as he watched after Val. Either way, I was ready to get out of here.
"You ready then?" I asked, pulling him back from wherever his mind had gone.
"Let's go," he replied, leading me out of the barn and back into reality.
