Minho:
I opened my eyes the light almost blinding me. The curtain had been opened and the sun shone right in my eyes. I sat up scooting off the bed and shutting the curtains and lying back down. I closed my eye ready to go back to sleep but before I got there someone began shaking me and once again the light was shining in my face.
“Get up!” I heard the person say their voice stern. I felt the blanket leave my body as I rolled to side trying to hide. “Hey we need to go into the maze today.”
I realized that it was Eliza who was talking but I still didn’t get up. I didn’t want to, “No,”
“Fine have it your way.” I heard her voice grow quieter, “I’ll see you later than I’m gonna go in and investigate. Goodbye.”
That snapped me out of it. I jumped out of bed grabbing my shirt getting ready as Eliza stood in the doorway laughing as I ran around frantically. Once I had finished I stood in front of Eliza looking at her as she had tears in her eyes from laughing so hard.
“That was just rude.” I told her as a new fight of laughter started.
“Lets go before we are late.”
“Fine,” she started out the door as I followed behind her.
When we got to the maze doors I froze wondering what was going to happen. After everything that had happened in the past few days I didn’t know what to think. I looked up Eliza staring at me already inside the maze. She had a large smile on her face as she turned around running off into the maze leaving me to follow after.
Once I had caught up to her we were both out of breath trying to get our breath back.
We sat on the ground taking in large breathes drinking one of the water we brought and taking a few bite of out food as well. By no time I had already finished my sandwich and drank half my water. I looked up at Eliza as she finished off her sandwich washing it down with some water. After we had both finished off our food we put the trash into the backpacks and continued on.
“Minho wait!” Eliza shouted, “Do you hear that?”
For a minuted I didn’t understand what she was saying but than I heard it. It was the sound of the box, it was coming back up. Why was it coming back up?
Without a word we both turned around and ran to the glade. We ran past the area we had stopped, running past all of the vines we had cut down, just running until we reached the glade to find out why the box was coming back up. It never came but up within the same month it was only once, so why was it coming back up now?
By the time we made it to the glade the box was already up, the sound gone, and a crowd of boys surrounded the box. We ran over pushing pas all the boys till we could look into the box. I looked down and to my surprise there was another girl.
She appeared to be sleeping but I couldn’t quite tell. Newt had jumped down there and was grabbing something out of her grasp. I could hear the crinkling of the paper before his face turned pale and shocked.
“What does it say Newt?” one of the boys asked.
“She’s the last one...Ever.” Newt looked up at us confused, “What the hell does that mean?”
The girl let out a gasp sending us all back a step in surprise. “Thomas,” she said her eyes closing as she took in large breathes her eyes closing as she fell unconscious again.
We all looked at Thomas as he looked at the girl his face full of confusion.
We all sat in the Med-Jacks, Eliza next to me and Thomas by the bed, Newt questing Thomas and what happened.
“Have you ever seen her before?” Newt asked
“No, at least not that I can remember.”
“You can’t remember anything about her, nothing?”
“No.”
“Well she seemed to know you.”
I looked over at Eliza hoping she had something to say since her and Thomas got along right off the bat, but she was only staring at her hands in her lap. For a moment I didn’t notice te shake in her hands but when I looked back at her I could see the visible shaking of her hands and she tried to keep them still and unnoticeable.
I went to open my mouth but before I could Newt interrupted. “Okay let's go get some food and we can continue this talk later.”
Everyone agreed standing and heading out the door. I was about to follow when I realized Eliza wasn’t with us. I turned around seeing her still in her seat this time looking at the girl. Her face was all different emotions some of which I couldn’t read. I walked over to her grabbing her hands in mine as I felt just how bad they were shaking.
“What is going on?” I asked her.
“It’s the girl.”
I was confused for a moment not understanding what she meant. “What girl?”
“The one from my memories. She is one of the ones that I worked with, along with Thomas. That’s how we know each other. Thomas doesn't know yet but she seems to know or at least did.”
I looked at Eliza not knowing what to say to help her out.
“Minho, I don’t know what to do. I don’t even belong here.”
“Hey no don’t say that. You belong here just like the rest of us.”
“Why. I didn’t come here the same way, I didn’t even come to help you guys get out. I only came to get away from WICKED and their hold on me.”
“But you are one of us know and it doesn’t matter what happens.”
“Okay alright. I’m gonna go and get some rest I really need it.”
“Do you want any dinner?” I asked as we both started for the door.
“No, I’m fine, just go and get some for yourself and don’t worry about me.”
She walked past me heading to the homestead as I walked off to the dining hall. When I got there the line was almost gone as all the boys had food and were sitting down. I grabbed mine thanking Frypan and letting him know that Eliza went to lay down, and then headed to a table with Newt, Thomas and Alby. When I sat down Alby looked me over his face still stern and grumpy.
He had been like that since he woke up and from what Eliza told me I think it was because he remembered what she had done.
“Where did Eliza go?” Newt asked looking around.
“She said she was tired and went to lay down.”
Newt nodded as we started talking about the girl who just showed up. I didn’t tell them anything that Eliza had told me, because I didn’t want them to know she remembered, but we definitely talked. We asked Alby if he remembered anything about her since he was stung, but he couldn’t remember anything about her.
We asked thomas a few more questions but like last time he had nothing about her that could help us. He couldn’t even remember if he had seen her before.
Once we were certain neither of them knew who the girl was we finished eating in peace just talking and than heading out to get everything finished up. I headed to the map room to put away all my stuff and take care of the records.
After I had finally finished the sky was dark and the light gone, everyone already in their beds and falling asleep. I headed to my room ready to crash and sleep forever, these last days have been the most interesting that they had ever been. Never had he ever seen anything like this every happening. Their was the Griver attack, Kile trying to kill Eliza, and even Theresa arriving.
I didn’t understand what was going on but there was something coming up and I didn’t know what it was.
I looked up as I shook the thoughts out of my head, as I realized that I was standing in front of my room. I opened the door walking in. I thought Eliza was going to be asleep but when I walked in she was sitting on the floor, her eyes closed, a cup of water in front of her.
“What are you doing?” I asked startling her as she jumped a bit her eyes flying open.
“Just thinking sorry.”
“I thought you would be asleep by now.”
“I couldn’t fall asleep.” I looked at her not quite believing her and what she was saying, “Don’t worry I’m fine.”
She stood up walking over to the bed climbing in.
“Is there anything you want to talk about?” I hoped she would explain more,
“No, I promise I’m fine.”
I still didn’t believe her but I knew that there was nothing I could do right than. If she didn’t want to talk I knew that nothing would convince her to talk. I wished she would realize that I was just trying to help her. I didn’t understand why I couldn't get through to her. She knows that I love her and that I want to help her, yet she doesn’t trust me enough to tell me everything.
I walked over to the bed and sat down Eliza laying next to me her eyes wide open as she looked up at me.
“I’m sorry Minho, I’ll tell you eventually. I just can’t yet.”
“It’s okay just stop hiding everything, please.”
“I will.”
I smiled laying down all the way as Eliza finally relaxed, closing her eyes and falling asleep. It was harder for me though, I couldn't stop thinking about everything. I thought of everything that had been happened, everything going on with Eliza, and even what I was going to do. I didn’t know how I was going to take care of everything, there was too much that still needed to be done. I didn’t know what was going to happen or how we were all going to make it through what was coming. What do I need to do for everything. What can I do?
Finally after what seemed like hours I felt sleep finally taking over. I let my eyes shut and let myself fall into darkness.
