Kane ~ June 10, Sunday
"Owen?" I called into the room as I slowly pushed it open. I winced when the hinges creaked obnoxiously loud. I glance at the bed and notice the comforter was gone and it was empty. I stepped further into the room and found the lycan huddled in the corner on the other side of the queen sized bed.
"Owen?" I tried again. This time my words were answered by a soft growl that quickly died into a thin wine. Owen had the blanket pulled tightly around himself up to ears as he stared up at me with glowing eyes.
"I'm sorry! It was an accident!" Owen stared in a desperate tone. The words tumbling from his mouth so fast they ran together. "I swear I didn't mean-"
"Hey, hey no no it's okay!" I quickly interrupted. I raised my hands and waved them a bit as I shook my head. "I'm not mad or anything I just wanted to come to make sure you were okay," I told the young man. I took another step forward, and Owen flinched. I instantly froze. With a small nod, I stepped back instead until my back bumped the wall and I leaned back against the white sheetrock.
Once I was comfortable against the wall with my hands placed behind my back casually I Inhaled deeply and let out it out slowly. "So..." I trailed as I tried to think of what I wanted to say. "I'm sorry." I decided to start with that. "For scaring you and overreacting the way I did." I ground the toe of my shoe into the white carpet. An awkward silence filled the room as I tried to think of what else to say.
Even though I'm quick to assume the worst of Owen I do want to help him. I want to help him get better and keep him safe. I really do, but Roman comes first in my heart. Even if I don't in his.
"Right, well. I'll leave you alone now. Roman is making you something to eat by the way. So you want to come and eat at the table or do you want to eat it in here?" Owen didn't answer for a few moments, so I quickly added, "whichever you choose is fine."
"In here." Came Owen's cautious tone. He moved around a bit and adjusted the thick blanket around his shoulders.
I gave a curt nod and pushed off from the wall. "Alright, I'll let him know." I turned and swiftly left the room. I walked back to the kitchen where Roman was stirring something in front of the microwave. The man turned to look at me as I entered the room and gave me a smile.
"Hey, how did it go?" Roman asked as he returned to what he was doing.
I came over to stand next to him and watched him stir a bowl of oatmeal. "He hates me," I stated dramatically.
Roman snorted at me. "Hate is pretty strong. You did attack him and threaten to kill him, but I highly doubt he hates you, Kane. Scared, yes, but I don't believe he could hate you after only knowing you for two days."
"I can think of a few people that I hate after knowing them for 5 minutes," I mumbled. There was a certain lady in pointed heels that came to mind. Roman shook his head at me while rolling his eyes, but he was smiling. Which of course made me smile as well.
I want to kiss him.
I quickly pushed the urge down and turned away from Roman to take a seat at the table. I put my elbows on the table and dropped my chin into my hands.
"He doesn't hate you," Roman repeated with confidence. I'm going to take this to Owen." He told me as a grabbed the bowl of oatmeal and a glass of milk. I watched Roman turn down the hall out of sight and let out a sigh.
With a soft groan, I laid my head on the table. Why do I have to love him so much? Why couldn't he love me back? That man has my mind all screwed up.
I fell for Roman the moment I saw him, but he never saw me as anything more than a friend and I was okay with that. As long as I got to stay by his side and protect him that was enough for me.
