The hunger was becoming uncontrollable . It felt like I’d not eaten in almost a

week. The smell of rotten flesh lingered all around. There was a small voice

in my head telling me it wasn’t wrong. I knew better but it was so hard not to

listen to it. My heart ached as I knew my humanity was drifting further away

. As I rose from the blood covered dirt, there was an eerie howl to the wind. It

sang a sad song for the lives lost. I looked to my feet to see a child. Their face

was torn half apart as if scrap meat for a dog to feast upon. The voice told

me to move as a command. Inevitably I listened to every word that it spoke.

I felt weak but as I saw a wild rabbit my hunger took over once more. Instinct

kicked in as I lunged at the poor creature. Tearing the flesh apart I could feel

the blood gushing down my throat. It was like nothing I could even explain.

What was wrong with me? I was acting like a wild beast. The voice laughed a

little at me.

“Poor child it is alright. You are just hungry. Eat and be content.”

How could I be content knowing the way I was acting. I finished the rabbit off

as standing up I heard voices. They yelled over here. Then I heard them yell

 there is the monster.

“Monster....who was the monster?”

I was confused as  seeing the lights flickering towards me. The voice

screamed run to me.

Why did I need to run? I was no monster.

“Run you damn woman! Before we are killed.”

A loud ear shattering boom crossed my left side. It looked like a

man was firing some kind of weapon at me. I realized they were trying

to kill me. I started to run as hearing the people yelling follow it. What had I

done? I don’t remember anything other then waking up in the bodies. Tears

fell from my eyes as I fell down the side of a cliff. I managed to grip on a

jagged edge as one of the people fired down at me. A sharp pain flowed

through my body as losing my grip. Why? That was all I could think of as

falling.

Maybe you shouldn’t have eaten all those people. What do you mean? I didn’t

eat any people. A laughter echoed as I woke up. The fall had knocked me out.

A man stood over me with a smirk to his lips.

“You really are just a child. A wild one at that. Too bad you never knew

 since living with humans.”

He must be crazy but in the back of my mind it made some sense.

“My name is Trevor Kassidy. You little one are lucky to even be alive.

Humans don’t take likely to find an in-human in their ranks. Must of been

hard awaking.”

I sat up to see my wounds were gone. How was this possible? I just wanted to

 go back home.

“My name is Lain Mae. What the hell are you talking about? I am not an in-human...you must have lost your mind.”

Trevor laughed a little more as leaning down to my eye level. His eyes were a striking gold that could see straight through your soul.

“You really are naïve little Lain. You turned into a wolf about ten feet tall. I heard the howls from here. To be honest I haven’t seen one like you in over a hundred years. The silver markings in your white fur was gorgeous.”

The voice in my head laughed a little.

“See you are no longer an innocent child. You are a killer.”

Tears started to fall from my eyes as his hand stroked some away. This was

too much for me. I didn’t understand how I could be one of those creatures.

They test everyone in the city to make sure they aren’t a beast at birth. How

could they have missed me?

The voice laughed a little at my speechlessness. Trevor leant down next to

me just trying to figure how I'd not known. In all big cities they tested the

babies at birth to make sure that no one was birthing a half-breed.

“Lain you must have noticed anything that a human couldn’t do and you

 could?”

I could see the gentle look to his eyes but they didn’t know how to comfort

me. I shook my head. I was a plain person. To be honest I was one of the

weakest people growing up. All the other kids could do everything better . My

stomach turned thinking of killing all those people. My mother and

siblings. Was she really my mother? I knew they killed the children who

weren’t human at birth.

Growing up no one ever thought much of it. Now as I was on the other end, I

felt so much guilt for living while others died. The voice kind of sounded like

a faint whisper as it spoke to me this time.

“We were hidden...it cost them their lives.”

Who was the them it spoke of? Was it my birth parents? I knew the woman I

called mother was a human. As were my three sisters.

“Your name is Trevor Kassidy and you said you hadn’t seen one like me in

over a hundred years. How old are you then? What does the silver

 markings in white fur mean?”

He gave me a faint smile as grabbing my hand. To be honest I really didn’t

want to move. My body did as he asked without even consenting me. That

seemed to be something that was starting to occur often. Trevor walked

me to a cliff side far enough away the hunters couldn’t get to us.

“Take a good look at what you did. This is something you will never be able

to change. If you try to refuse who you are....this will happen again. Your

hunger will be all you know. Then you truly will become a beast with

human looking flesh.”

I started to ball like a baby just falling to my knees. I had truly destroyed the

city I’d known as my home. The smell of the rotten flesh still filled the cliff

sides. I leant over the edge throwing up. My stomach felt like I’d been hit by a

train. Accepting what I was going to be was going to be hard. It was

something that I might never be able to accept. Trevor said I would kill again

but how did he know? Did he have the same problem when he awakened?

Taking a deep breathe I forced myself to stand. There was something in me

that said run, yet at the same time it said stay with him.

“You never answered me Trevor. How old are you really?”

He glanced over at me for a moment then to the sky.

“I am well over three thousand years old.”

His stare came back to me as if trying to see if it phased me any. All I could

think is how many horrors has he seen. Humans had evolved so much yet fell

 so far as well.

I remember the stories of how things would create smog and pollution. He

actually lived through these times. I looked down for a moment then back to

him. How could you express yourself when you didn’t really understand

anything?

“You’ve lived through all the technological changes in human and non-

human history. How is it you’ve lived so long?”

He placed a hand on my head then started to turn to walk away.

“Simple I am what you call one of the damned ones. No matter what it

seems I just can’t die. I even tried to kill myself many times. No one knows

why this occurs in some of us non-humans.”

I started to follow him down a path that was covered with beautiful blue

vines. I’d never seen anything like them in my life. Along side the rock edges

were blood red flowers. It almost looked like they could bleed with just a

simple touch to their petals. I leant down to inhale the perfume but Trevor

 stopped me.

“These are dangerous. Humans and in-humans can’t even smell these or

else they will be poisoned. If they are crushed into a fine paste they can

even be used for medicine with another plant.”

I gave a faint smile to thank him.

He walked me to a small house about three miles from where I had awaken.

“From here on out little one you will be without me. I need to go tend to

things. Remember to feed on wild animals or else you will lose control once

 more.”

He was actually leaving me here. How was I suppose to even interact with

people. I was still covered in blood. He looked back at me once more as then

taking off into a swift run, seconds passed as a huge black fox stood not far

from me. He must have been at least eight feet tall. I was breathless for a

moment at his beauty. His striking gold eyes just looked through me once

more. Then like a flash he was gone. I needed to get this blood off my flesh.

With a sadness of being alone I walked into the small house. Inside it smelt

like fresh roses. I walked through the living area to find a bedroom with a

bathe. Lucky for me there was actually clothing here. This wasn’t something I

would normally wear but I think the time for being picky was gone. I looked

in the mirror as trying not to be sickened by my appearance. I was in tight

red leather pants with knee length leather boots. My shirt was a tight black

leather like corset that had a silky fabric under it.

I glanced to my hair to see it was turning snow white. My blonde hair was

fading away. How many more changes were going to happen to me before

this was all over. Slowly this was all starting to sink in even more that I had to

change. I stared in the mirror at my eyes even they were changing from my

green to a striking silver. Did this all have to do with my beast form? Letting

out a breathe I looked around the house. I wanted to explore everything just

in case of needing to escape. For a few hours I sat in the living room thinking

about the hunters. They wouldn’t give up so easy. I remembered watching on

the screens how they hunted one person for almost a week.

I grabbed a bag from under a small table. It would hold more then enough for

now. I grabbed several clothes looking around I found what looked like a

little purse decoration. In reality it was a sword that was made from light. It

was weird to imagine how many things I could possible carry that were

actually dangerous. As the bag was filled I looked back once more. This was

the end of who I once had been.

The sky was dark with a cold wind blowing as sending chills down my spine.

This was truly something terrifying but at the same time I felt almost free.

The first steps seemed to be the hardest but once I was far from the house it

was more simple. The trees seemed to know that I was new to this world. I

walked for what felt like days. To be honest I wasn’t paying attention to night

and day. I wanted to gain as much distance from there as possible. Stopping I

felt my stomach growling. I couldn’t just settle this with some bread and

fruit. It was the flesh of another living creature I was hungry for.

There was a small dear that was grazing in the distance. My body moved into

the brush like it was always a natural killer. I waited till it wasn’t looking then

lunged at it. That is when my head collided with another person. Thankfully

we did kill the dear. A young man sat there looking at the dear then me. He

smelt the air then backed away a little from me.

“Um...we can share if you like?”

He crawled over a little as smelling me once more. Then he tore into the

dear. I couldn’t stop from doing so as well. I was starving for the meat.

The young man seemed to watch my every movement. It was like he was

scared of me yet he was also debating something. I finished what I wanted as

getting something to clean the blood off me. He watched as I got cleaned

up. His ruby red eyes were so pretty like a gem you would want to preserve. I

smiled a little at him as starting to walk off. He sat there for a few moments

then seemed to follow me. I turned once as he hid behind a giant rock.

Letting out a sigh I continued to walk as if he wasn’t there. I could smell fresh

cooked food. I must be near a city again. Then a thought came to me...the

closest Big city was over five hundred miles away. It was strange since more

cities were much closer then that. Stopping on the edge of a road I thought

about the scanners.

I knew they wouldn't allow a non-human in the city. They had to wear a

special band on their arms. I hated the thought of being singled out. The

young boy walked up behind me as gently grabbing my hair smelling it.

“Your not mean?”

I turned and smiled to him.

“I just awakened not too long ago. I didn’t even know I was in-human. It is

all still a shock to me.”

He sat down next to me smiling. It was like a little kid who was lost and finally

 found.

“My name is Bren. I don’t have a last name since I named myself. I was left

for dead at three in the woods.”

I leant over and touched his face. I wondered what kind of in-human he was

but decided not to ask.

“If you like I can give you my last name.”

The boy shot up like a child in a candy store allowed to get what ever their

 heart desired.

It was truly heart-warming to see how much it meant to Bren. I took a

breathe in as looking to the gate to the city. This was going to be rough as

hell since all in-humans were treated like garbage. Bren took my hand as

smiling up to me. This young boy had endured god knows what yet he was

trying to comfort me. In that moment I felt pathetic. At least the voice in my

head wasn’t speaking to me still. That alone would freak me out.

The guard looked to us as we approached the gate. His eyes narrowed at me.

Just seeing the disdain made me want to hurl him into a wall. He glanced to

my leather outfit with a twisted smirk.

“Are you human or not woman?”

Bren tightened his hand looking at the man like he was something to tear

apart. Smiling I answer the man with a sarcastic tone.

“We’re non-human...which doesn’t seem to bother you in the slight while

checking out my breast.”

The man gave a nasty snarl then threw two bracelets towards our faces. The

urge to laugh over came me as I caught them easily. Who would have thought

those words would have escaped my lips three days ago. I place our bracelets

on then walk through the gates. It felt like a wave of energy hit us hard. The

feeling made me almost want to puke.

So this is what they do to minimize the strength and hunger of our kind. It is

then that I noticed that Bren was staring at me. His ruby red eyes were

glistening in the light from the city. Was this his first time being in one of the

 cities?

“Come on we need to keep moving. I want to get things so we can

leave here soon as possible. It might be nice in here but only if you are a

human. The in-human get treated like slaves unless they come from out of

the city.”

This news seemed to shock Bren. His eyes showed a sadness to them. He

turned to me with a faint smile speaking.

“It is alright. I know that we are not liked. Well...not even most of our kind

like to be around each other. I think it is due to being hunted so much that

 they tend to stay away.”

I let out a sigh pulling him by his hand to follow behind me. This city was set

up like mine it appeared. As we walked I looked to all the in-humans who

were treated like their lives didn’t matter. This was my fate I suppose.

Although I never disliked in-humans. I just never wanted to be treated like

them. A laugh escapes my lips as Bren stops to look at me.

“Nothing Bren...just thinking to myself is all. I am actually kind of pathetic.

I never really did anything in the city I grew up in to hurt non-humans but

nor did I do anything to help them.”

I do tend to write in a different style then most people. Sorry if it gets confusing to anyone.

I hope spacing it and making the talking with bold and " signs helped

Really evocative writing & I'm intrigued at this world that the characters live in. Bren sounds really adorable, I wanna adopt him. :3 A suggestion, could you break up the paragraphs into smaller paragraphs for later chapters? (also start a new paragraph each time a character speaks) As I struggle with reading large blocks of text. It will really help with the readability of the story visually ty!
