Chasing Tail

Courage

Courage

May 15, 2019

Over the next few weeks, nothing big happens, things have seemed to slow down. Which I am thankful for. It's not good to have such big distractions so close to midterms.

Aiden stays true to his word, he came to pick me up every Friday to go to the study group. With midterms coming up it was less like a party among friends and more a bunch like a bunch of people crying in groups.

Everyone eventually broke off into little groups to actually study certain subjects. Aiden and I weren't in the same group. Seeing as we didn't have majors that related in any way to each other.

Aiden was studying for whatever class he has and I was studying with my friend Marsha for our mass media law class. Which I can't wait to be over with. If I could turn any class into a real person just to punch its face, it would be mass media. It's the only bad grade I've gotten in my three years at college. Its the blemish on my perfect record. And let's not forget how much of a bitch my professor is. When this bitch dies I'm gonna come back and spit on her grave.

"Ugh, I would rather jump out of an airplane into a volcano than take this exam." She and I were laying on the floor of one of Jaime's rooms. Books and paper surrounded us.

"Come on, it's not so bad."

I scoffed, "Yeah, say's the future valedictorian."

"Not if I don't pass this class."

"So true."

Martha went back to reading her textbook when I got a text.

Message from Aiden:

Hey

Me:

Hey

Aiden:

Wyd

Me:

You know what I'm doing.

Aiden:

Well do u wanna stop doin whatever ur doing and come eat lunch with me

Me:

I'm kinda busy.

Aiden:

I'm kinda hungry

Aiden:

Come on its just one lunch it can't kill you

I thought for a moment. I was going to fail this class either way, so why waste time studying? At least that's what I told myself when I texted back a yes.

I grabbed my jacket and headed downstairs to meet Aiden by the door. When I got down there, I saw him flirting with another girl. I immediately wanted to turn around and go back. But then I told myself 'Why do you care? He's single he can do whatever he wants.

He spotted me and said bye to whoever he was talking to and walked over to me. And held out his arm.

"Shall we?"

I rolled my eyes and walked past him. I didn't have time for his bullshit. I was only in this for the free meal.

"Okay then."

We walk out to his car and I notice its different from the one he usually drives. For one, this it was a bright red, and it stood out among all of the muted colors on the street.

"New car?"

"Nah," Aiden walks forward and opens the door for me, "This is old. My baby's in the shop right now."

Weird.

When he gets in the car I ask him where we're going.

"It's a surprise."

The drive was short and silent, save for the music playing lightly in the background. When they got to the place Aiden wanted to take her to lunch she was floored at the beauty it held. I looked like a garden straight out of a fairytale.

It was small and was made of brick with ivy and roses climbing up the walls. The sign read 'Cafe Gianno's'.

"Wow, this place is beautiful."

"I knew you'd like it. Come on, let's go inside."

The inside was even more beautiful than the outside. The ceiling was painted to look like the sky and the floor was covered in lush green grass. in the center was a water fountain in the shape of a waterfall.

Honestly, I'd never seen anything like it.

"How'd you find this place?" I asked.

"Instagram."

Before I can say anything else a waitress walks up to us.

"Party for two?"

"Yes."

"Follow me."

We follow her to the patio in the back, an open space surrounded by pillars covered in vines. Aiden pulls out my chair and I sit down as the waitress sets down a menu.

"Do you have anything in mind for what you want to drink?" The waiter says as Aiden takes his seat across from me.

"I'll have an iced tea."

"And you?" She turned to me.

"Water's fine."

The waitress left and we were left in awkward silence.

"So," Aiden said, dragging out the syllable," Finals are coming up."

I groaned, "Don't remind me."

He laughed, "Do you have anything planned for winter break?"

I shrugged, "Not really, no. You?"

"I'm going to the Swiss Alps."

"Some quality time with your parents. That's nice."

Aiden scoffed, "Fuck no. I'm going with some friends."

"Oh, why not your parents."

"Well, ever since my mm died," Yikes, " My dad hasn't really spent time with me. It's like he only comes home to eat and sleep."

What do I even say to that influx of information? That was way more than I thought I'd ever know about this man. Not that I'm complaining.

"I'm sorry"

Aiden shook his head, "It's fine. You should try their eggs benedict, it's really good."

"I thought we were here for lunch."

"They serve it all day. It's one of their specialties, and they serve all kinds of variations of it."

We talked some more about school and what we planned to do in the future. Aiden planned to work at his father's company. A security contractor or firm of some sort. It was out of my scope. And I talked about what I planned to do after graduate school. Which was to travel the world and do investigative journalism in other countries.

"Sounds hard."

"Yeah well, I like hard things."

Aiden laughed and that was when I realized the implication my words had.

"Ew, you pervert. That's not what I meant."

"I have no idea what you're talking about."

"Yeah sure."

The waiter came round with our food and conversation lulled, what with the food in our mouths. I surprisingly was having a lot more fun than I thought I would.

I didn't know if that was a good or bad thing.
