I dream, images and sounds coming to me in flashes. Lights in my face, sirens, hushed whispers, screeching metal concerned faces. It all comes to a stop abruptly, with white noise filling my ears.
I blink my eyes open, trying to adjust to the harsh lights above me. Ugh, that hurts. Why on earth are there fluorescent lights here anyway? Fairly sure I'm dead. Dead would be a bummer. My hearing adjusts as well, and now I can hear hushed voices.
I cover my face with my arm and groan under my breath. I am hurt, I am very much hurt. Though the blanket over me is comfy, as well as my trademark hoodie... Wait...
I sit up abruptly, pain shooting through me. I look down and see the outfit I wore before transforming, my pyjamas and hoodie, no shoes. I must have de-transformed while I was sleeping. Oh no.
"Oh cool, you're awake." My gaze snaps to the person who spoke, the girl twin I had saved just now... Or earlier, before I blacked out. Unless they're dead too. Whoops? Her brother stands alongside her. I let out an ungodly screech and scoot back until I come close to falling off the edge of whatever I was sleeping on and cover my face.
"Woah, woah, woah. Calm down, we're not gonna hurt you."
"And we don't know who you are either. But we have seen your face."
"Not helping!"
"She's clearly freaking out about that, she's covering her face!" I peek out from behind my fingers as they bicker, and take note of my surroundings.
Firstly, lack of exits. No windows and one door. We're lucky this building isn't on fire. Exits have become a priority after beginning crime fighting. Second it's pretty small, with room for a couple bookcases lining the wall to my right and a compact (but complicated looking) computer setup to my left, as well as whatever I'm lying on, which looks like a couch, which sits in the middle, facing the computers. A desk is sitting behind me. In front are stairs leading to the door.
Should I make a run for it? Probably should sort out everything with these twins first. Who are still arguing.
Both twins are sandy blonde, both with short hair, the girl's coming to her shoulders. They also both sported bright blue eyes, the perfect amaranians. Their fashion sense was simplistic, like my own, except the boy's outfit was of brighter colours and the girl had glasses perched on her nose, something I hadn't seen last time. I mentally dubbed them female Dipper and male Mabel in my tired state.
"Where am I?" Both freeze and look to me, as if they had forgotten I was there, probably did.
"You're, uh..." The female shoots her brother a pleading look. He shrugs. "You're at our place." Very helpful, thank you.
"Are we still in New York?" Hopefully I'll have enough energy to get home. The brother answers this time.
"Yeah. Do you... Remember what happened?" Just because I blacked out, doesn't suddenly mean I'm an amnesiac.
"Everything until I blacked out after I saved you two."
"Well at least she doesn't know where this place this." Interesting.
"Alex, at least try to be nice!"
"You don't want anyone to know where this place is?" They freeze again before Alex is sent a scathing look by her brother.
"I'm sure you wouldn't want to broadcast where you live either."
"Understandable." Silence ensues.
"Okay, I think introductions are in order. My name is Aaron, and this is Alex." She waves.
"Well, nice to meet you. Properly. You know what my alias is." Great introduction Rhiann, I'm sure you'll leave a great first impression.
"Yeah, and it's so cool to meet you!" What switch had been flipped?! What happened to the stand-offish attitudes from earlier? He went from mature to bubbly in 0.2 seconds.
"Uh, ditto?" Then it begins.
"You're a lot younger than we thought?"
"How does your magic work?"
"Have you only just begun, or working outside the public eye this whole time?"
"What kind of magic can you do?"
"Do you go to school on top of this?"
"Are there others like you? And could there be?"
"Does your magic only apply to you or others things mythical?"
"Is this hereditary?"
"Can you-"
"Let me stop you right there." I take a deep breath. "Whatever, don't know, just begun, still working on that, can't tell you, don't know, maybe, don't know, seems like it. That answer your questions thus far?" I'm answered with enthusiastic nodding. "Okay."
I'm about to continue when my stomach rumbles, a noise that fills the whole room. I can feel an intense blush creeping onto my face.
"How about I get us some food?" Aaron says with a chuckle. He darts up the stairs and through the door, leaving me alone with Alex.
"Are you in any pain at all?"
"Kinda."
"Can you walk?" I whip the blanket off me and slide my feet over the edge of the couch and onto the floor. I push myself up and balance unsteadily. I attempt to take a step forward as Alex jumped to help me, overshooting the distance and sending us both to the floor. More pain.
"Ugh, I'm so-"
"It looks like you've fallen for me." My eyes snap up to see her smirk. Is she flirting? With me?? What do I do?!
"I, I uh-"
"Alex, what are you doing to her?" Oh thank the goddess. Alex rolls off me and a pair of hands reaches under my armpits and hauls me up.
"Sorry about that." One of his hands moves to my waist, the other to my shoulder. I'm kind of overstimulated at this point, still recovering and then the flirting and the touching. "I wouldn't have left you alone if I knew Alex was gong to take advantage of the situation."
"It's fine, I guess. No harm done." Though I don't think my back agrees.
"Hey! I was trying to help her walk!"
"Fairly sure she can't walk if she's being pinned." I miss the knowing look he sends Alex's way and he hands a sandwich to me and helps me get comfortable. Alex glares in response. They kinda remind me of Tara and I.
They chat animatedly as I eat, trying multiple times to get me to join, but failing. I don't trust myself to not spill anything in this easy atmosphere and current state. God I'm still so hungry. And tired and in pain. Maybe... I should... Ask for more food... I think before my eyes drift close. It's funny how comfortable I feel around complete strangers. What's a couple more hours?
