Happy birthday to you!
Happy birthday to you!
Happy birthday dear Ayako!
Happy birthday to you~!
As we were sitting around the small dining table in the dimed living room with the lit-up candles that were sitting on the cake, Aiko, mom and dad were singing for me. Slowly the ending of the song came near, and I was waiting eagerly to blow out the 16 lit up candles.
“Blow out the candles Ayako.” Mom said after finishing the song.
No need to tell me twice. After making a wish I inhaled a gulp of not so fresh air and blew hard enough to blow out all the candles at ones.
Glancing to my right I could see Aiko drooling as she was looking with full expectance at the strawberry short cake that my mom took the time to make. Nobody can resist mom’s home baking cake, so it is understandable that Aiko basically became a drooling monster.
Aiko’s greedy hand were reaching for the cake before I even sliced it, but I swatted her hand away. “Ouch!”
I tutted with my fingers at her while shaking my head. “Aiko, Aiko, you know damn well that I have to open my presents first and after that we can eat the cake.”
“But I already gave you your present.” She said as she tried to reach for the cake again which in return received an angry glare from me.
“I’ve got parents remember? And they are sitting with us.” She retreated her hand and gave a gleeful smile towards my parents who just found our conversation amusing.
Mom pulled from under the table a wrapped in present which had a square shape. Happily, I received it in my hands.
“We’ve always wanted to give this present to you and now that your finally 16 we can finally do that.” Mom said.
Confused to why they had to wait until I was sixteen to give this to me I gave them a questionable look, but mom already predicted what I wanted to ask seeing the expression on my face and silently shook her head with a smile as she slowly rested her head on dad’s shoulder.
“Open it.” She said in a low mellow voice.
I did as she said and carefully unwrapped the present. It was a black jewelry box. On the jewelry box there were some weird written symbols on it. I slowly opened the box and came eye to eye with a platinum bracelet. What had caught my eyes the most from the bracelet was the big stone on it. In the stone the night starry sky was displayed with the crest moon surrounding it. Something about the stone was pulling me in to it. It was breathtaking and when you take a closer look to it something was swirling inside of it. It were the colors of the galaxy.
Aiko gave a small gasp seeing the bracelet. “It’s beautiful.”
The moment that I put it on something inside of me clicked with it. It felt familiar as if I saw it before.
I looked at my parents who were wearing a sad expression on their faces as if they feared something.
“Do you like it?” Dad asked trying to break the silence.
I nodded. “I like it.” I caressed the stone in a gentle manner. I felt emotional. Something has been swelling inside me ever since I put it on me.
It was sadness.
Aiko touched my shoulder. “Hey what’s wrong?” Aiko asked.
My breathing became shallow. Now that I think about it my body has been feeling hot ever since I woke up this morning. What’s wrong with me? “N-nothing.”
Dad cleared his throat. “Ayako, we’ve got to tell you something…no matter what’s going to happen from here on out we will always love you. What we are about to tell you may change every- Ayako what’s wrong?”
The heat in my body became worse and worse beads of sweat started to slowly form on my for head. My breathing became shallower and shallower.
Mom stood up in panic and was soon beside me. Laying her hand on my forehead she was shocked at how high my temperature was.
“Dear, it’s starting.”
Starting? What’s starting?
A sudden sharp pain went trough my back causing me to hunch over and hurl.
“Ayako!?” Aiko screamed scared of what was happening to me.
Soon dad was at my side and carried me in his arms walking on to the staircase towards my room with mom and Aiko following behind him.
The pain that was even worse than period pain became worse by the second making it hard for me to breath. Dad slowly puts met in bed.
Staring at my parents trough my hazy vision gasping for air to breath I asked; “What’s happening to me?”
Not able to see me suffer mom crouched beside me caressing my head in tears. “I’m so sorry, baby. If we knew that it would be this terrible we wouldn’t have let you go to school and explained to you everything.” She looked at me with so much guilt.
I shook my head trying to tell her that it’s not her fault, but before I could tell her that the worse pain that I’ve ever felt happened. The back of my back felt like it was on fire. Something was trying to rip it open. Not being able to handle the pain I screamed. I trashed around, pulled at my hair, I even started to inflict pain on myself by scratching at my arms. I did anything just to minimize the pain that I was feeling.
It felt like I was dying.
Trying to stop me mom and Aiko held my arms down. Dad was holding down my legs as I was kicking and trashing around. Every word that they were trying to say to calm me down were muffled by my screams and just fell on deafening ears.
When the last surge of pain went trough my back something else came out at the same time. The pain that was killing and torturing me the whole time went away almost immediately only to leave the throbbing in my back. My whole body was exhausted from fighting against the pain. I could feel my heavy eyelids closing on me. However, before my body was consumed by the darkness I saw Aiko’s face at the last second. Her face was wearing expression that was contoured by shock and fear. What's with that look? I know that I look horrible when I sweat but still.
So much for my awesome 16th birthday.
Happy birthday to me...yay.
