“Mom, I could really go for a burger, fries, and a shake!” She called out as she descended the stairs.
“You’ll go for a run then?” Ahnali laughed.
“I ran enough yesterday, I think I’ll do some swimming,” her mom cocked her eye brow, “at Claire’s house, that would be laughing and swimming, twice the work out.” she looked at her mom pleadingly.
“Are you sure you’re up for that?” Ahnali frowned before answering.
“I’m fine, yes it was scary, I definitely learned a lesson, but nothing truly horrible really happened plus there will be cops looking for them now, they can’t hurt me. Please mom, spending time with Claire will be good for me.” Her mom looked worried but sighed.
“Ok, fine...but I want updates...and you won’t go out past 7 without her parents, understood?” Ahnali smiled excitedly and hugged her mom.
“Thank you, now let’s go get those burgers!” They laughed together as they left the house and got in the car.
To Ahnali’s surprise her dad was sitting in the back seat “Dad!? I didn’t know you were here.” He looked up from his phone and smiled at her.
“Of course I am, after we get you fed we’ll go to the station, followed by the investigator, I wouldn’t make you do all of that alone.” She was so happy to see that he wasn’t in boss mode “Now where are we stopping for lunch?” She smiled brightly.
“Well I have to swim, mom’s gotta do yoga and you’ll have to lift weights. Can you guess?” He smirked at her knowingly.
“The way you eat there, you’ll have to do more than just swim.” he chuckled before instructing the driver. “Peter, take us to Hogan’s please.” Ahnali laughed at his comment shaking her head at him playfully.
“Hey, I’d climb a mountain if it meant I could eat everything on their menu.”
The car was full of merriment and laughter. After everything she had gone through it was nice to spend time with her real father. Even though she knew he would change back to his ‘boss mode’ after lunch. She never let herself dwell on that, instead she made the most of every second she had with the real him. They all talked and laughed during lunch, talking about movies that were coming out, or how nothing could beat the classics. Of course eventually they finished their meals and it was time to head to the station. Ahnali and her mother went out to wait for the car to pull up while her father paid. She stepped out from under the awning just as the car arrived. She was expecting to feel the rain instantly but instead she remained dry except for a single drop on her nose. As she took her second step the rain resumed normally again. Her mother hurried her into the car. Ahnali didn’t know what to do, she got in her car and began typing on her phone, “Oh Rain! Look at my phone now.”
“Darling, what are you doing?” She glanced over at her mother keeping the phone outside, she felt a slight tug.
“I’m just trying to get a picture, the skyline looks cool from here.” She felt a few
taps on the phone then nothing.
“Well be quick, water is getting everywhere.” Ahnali snapped a few shit photos and brought the phone back inside. Her father got in the car just as she rolled up the window. “Peter, to the station please.”
The car went off. Ahnali opened the memo to see what Rain had typed:
I can’t talk right now, can you meet me at my house later, I really need to talk with you. ~Ahnali
See you later. ~Rain
She smiled to herself happy to know she would get to see him again. She wished there was another way to talk with him, though it would be a little odd for magical beings to have text and emails. A bright smile fought its way onto her lips. She was glad that her parents were distracted, her obvious amusement at seemingly nothing would have definitely made them concerned.
