“Who… What are you?” I tried asking the two figures in front of me.
“We are the ones that will forever haunt your mind, until we come to claim you for our own.” the Necromancer cryptically answered me.
“Ethereal Hunters…” I concluded. “So you are the ones who marked me then?”
“We are.”
“Why?”
“To complete The Hunt.”
“When shall you claim me?” I don’t know whether I wanted to know the answer, really.
“Whenever we choose to.”
“That’s not—”
“Shush!” The female interrupted me. “Our Mothers, dear. They are calling. I can hear them.”
“Stay here. We shall be—wait, what’s this?” He came walking in our direction, and started circling around Valentina.
“You mean to say ‘who is this?’.”
“No. What, not who. No soul. No Mortis.”
“She’s Valentina, a Wisp. She’s my friend.”
“This is your… friend?” He asked Valentina, to which she blinked green. He hesitated to do anything else. After a second or two, he returned to his bright Huntress. “Let’s head to our Mothers, friend. You,” he was now talking to us, “don’t move.”
I looked at Valentina and started whispering to her.
“What are they?”
A red blink.
“This makes me uncomfortable, Valentina. They seem very peculiar beings… Should we try to escape?”
Another red blink, but this time not only for denial, but I felt a slight bit of anger and disappointment in it.
“If you say so…”
Not long after, they reappeared.
“Mother has spoken.” The female said to us. “Mother was angry. She wants us to make an agreement.”
Her friend continued the conversation, “She said you are a powerful being, both physically and mentally. She said you could be of great use to The Plane and The Lands.”
“Where is this going?” I dared to ask him.
“We will sacrifice two of our claimed Marks to lift yours.” I saw Valentina turn yellow next to me. “But you will help us in The Hunt, and you will help our Mothers whenever they request your aid.”
“Agreed.” I said without hesitating or even thinking about what the consequences would be.
“Excellent. Our Mothers will be happy, as are we.” As he said that, he pointed his pure black hand in my general direction, which made The Mark appear again. When he closed his hand, both the flame and white circle were compressed into nothingness, and vanished in thin air.
“Our Mark was lifted…” I heard the female soothingly say.
“…to place it elsewhere.” The male answered.
