‘What’s wrong, Karin?’ I asked, trying my best to sound friendly. Anyone who didn’t know her wouldn’t be able to tell she was angry. However, I saw the signs.
She had her poker face on.
Now I’m not psychic enough to read her mind, but from the looks of it, it was pretty obvious to whom she was directing this rage.
Me.
How do I know this? She was bent over my desk, staring at me like a wolf does its prey. I certainly felt like a harmless rabbit.
‘I heard from Jason. You were at the recital yesterday.’
I cursed my friendship with him for the second time this week. Him and his big mouth.
‘Yeah.’ Karin’s eyes narrowed.
‘What happened?’ Out of everyone in the school, Karin was the only one who knew my secret. Besides Minami, of course.
‘Nothing much, she just glared at me.’ It’s no use trying to lie to her; her dad’s a detective, after all.
Karin sighed.
‘Be careful; she’s a powerful girl and could make your life a living hell if she felt like it.’ Intrigued by the idea, I imagined Minami doing the evil laugh.
It didn’t work very well.
