At this point, I had no choice to agree.
The consequences of not doing so were too great.
The moment I accepted, Minami looked at me like I was crazy and stormed out in a dignified, ladylike fashion.
Got to admire that.
‘I’m happy that you’ve accepted, Akira!’ the principal replied, his smile returning. I was starting to hate this guy.
‘I don’t think that president is a good idea, though,’ I said. Time for negotiations.
‘Don’t worry; Minami will handle all the difficult work until you’re ready. She’ll be under you as vice-president.’ I looked at him blankly for a second; then realized that I’d just stolen her job. Great, another reason for her to hate me.
I sighed.
‘Fine, but no matter what you say I can’t–’
‘Do Mondays and Wednesdays, right?’ he finished off for me. Just how much has he researched? ‘No problem.’ The lunch bell rang, marking the end of the break. Usually, I hated that sound.
Today, it was like heaven to my ears. Getting up, I began to enthusiastically show myself out.
‘You start tomorrow!’ he called as I closed the door.
I wish tomorrow never came.
