Walking to the tree, I was surprised to see who was waiting for me.
Jane Turner, my best friend’s sister.
‘Yo,’ she called, walking up to me. I always felt weird around her, mostly because she was like a female version of Jason. That didn’t stop her from being voted number five best-looking girl in the school, though.
‘I didn’t know you were in the student council.’ She frowned at me, placing her hands on her hips.
‘How long have we known each other? I’ve been the disciplinary officer since last year.’ Oh, right. Now that I think about it, I remember a day when a bunch of delinquents started a fight in our class. She cleaned them up in an instant.
‘So what are we doing?’
‘Nothing much, the principal told me to just show you what we do and that you’d learn as we went along. But anyway.’ She tilted her head at me. ‘Exactly what kind of bet did you lose to get stuck with this? You’ve avoided extra-curricular work like it was bubonic plague.’ Ah, yes, Jane always liked to use big words.
‘Is it so impossible that I’d want to?’ She raised an eyebrow.
‘Yes.’
