Samuel C. Conway is a 54 year old American researcher in the pharmaceutical and biomedical fields of organic chemistry. Conway, or better known to the furry fandom as Kage (pronounced Kah-gae), has used his extensive intellect to create compounds for the treatment of Hepatitis B and to come up with recyclable packaging materials other than cardboard or styrofoam that are much safer for the environment.
Besides being a scientific genius and respected by his fellow scientist peers, Uncle Kage is the chairman and chief organizer of Anthrocon which is one of the biggest furry cons in the world behind Midwest Fur Fest. He also hosted a charity to help a struggling Pittsburgh business called "Fernando's Cafe".
For background, the owner of Fernando's Cafe is a very kind Brazilian man named Fernando DeCarvalho who liked the business that Anthrocon brought to his cafe. There was a time when anti-fur locals tried to throw bricks at some fursuiters and Mr. DeCarvalho tried to intervene and suffered from a fractured skull.
When Mr. DeCarvalho had recovered and found that his business wasn't making enough to stay open, Uncle Kage stepped in and hosted a charity, as mentioned before, that raised more than $20,000 which was more than enough to keep the Cafe up and running. “I believe God worked through the furries,” said Mr. DeCarvalho, “because I was really in need.”
Uncle Kage is skilled at telling stories that draw people's attention. One such instance was when he was talking to a friend about a certain experience [that I do not remember and need to research further] and soon, he had a crowd around him listening to his story. When he finished, people asked for another story, and that was the start of another hobby, story-telling. He has written several short stories such as "Six" which won the "Best Anthropomorphic Short Story" award from the Ursa Major awards in 2002.
(Ursa Major Awards are basically furry Oscars.)
His fursona isn't as fluffy as you would expect... It's a cockroach. His alias, Kage, is short for Kagemushi. Kage meaning Shadow and Mushi meaning bug. He discovered his fursona when he was on his computer, typing away. A black shape crept onto his monitor, and he was quite surprised that the silhouette was that of a roach so he chuckled to himself and made a pun, "Kagemushi". And ever since then, his fursona was a cockroach in a lab coat.
