When I was little me and my twin would go to my grandma's old house to spend the summer. There was always an old ink pen on her desk. She would always tell the children not to touch it. So by the time I was old enough to think for myself it had become instinct. Every time I saw the pen my brain repeated, “Don't touch the pen.” It wasn't until I was around ten when I started to ask why. My grandma said to never use the pen because it was cursed. I always asked why it was cursed. All she ever said was i'll tell you when you're older. So when I was twelve I begged her to tell me.
She set me down and told me a story. “Did you know you're Great-grandmother used to be a twin?” I nodded no, “Well she was. The story goes that she was a witch. One day she got into a horrible fight with her twin and in a rage she wrote her twins name down with that pen using her own blood as ink. Cursing her twin to disappear. And she did. It's said that the curse never left the pen.” This story obviously scared me but as the year passed I forgot about it. When I became thirteen I convinced myself it was a myth. Just a scary story my grandmother told me to get me to stop asking about the pen. It was probably just a family heirloom or something and she didn't want me to break it. On the day after our thirteenth birthday me and my twin were fighting. I don't even know how it started. But I remember a tube of lip gloss being involved. That stupid cheep tube of lip gloss. We had a yelling match that eventually led both of us to the study. I yelled at her, “I hate you! I want you to leave!”
She yelled back, “I want it in writing! If you dare!” Letting anger blind me I forgot about the story I was told. I grabbed the pen and started writing. “I want my twin to disappear.” It took me a minute to realize two things. The first thing was that the ink was blood colored. And the second was the fact that I no longer heard my twin yelling……..
