When we woke up in the morning, Helena was already dressed up and ready to leave. When our eyes met, she smirked at me as I blushed before rapidly looking away. It was so embarrassing. She clearly knew what we were doing last night. The knowing look in her eyes told me everything I needed to know. First, it was Sebastian and now Helena. Gods help me.
When Ryan went hunting for food, I sat next to my mate’s bodyguard. I watched her ignite the fire back on as I wondered what kind of woman she was. I wondered if she has a mate?
“Helena, do you have a mate?” I shyly asked as she tossed a log of wood into the growing fire.
“Yes, I do,” she gently smiled as she sat down next to me.
“What’s his or her name? Hos is he or she like?” I asked genuinely intrigued.
“Andrew, his name is Andrew,” she answered with dreamy eyes. “His eyes are vibrant emeralds green as he has dark brown hair. The back is shorter than the front. He likes to style it in a quiff. He also has a short Hollywoodian beard,” she continued to describe her mate while being lost in her thoughts.
She didn’t even notice Ryan that came back during her description of her mate. Only when my mate was halfway through butchering the dead animal that she noticed that she had been rambling. A blush appeared on her cheeks as Ryan shook his head with a teasing smirk. She turned around to stare at the fire, but we could still see the redness on her ears. There were no doubts that she loved Andrew. The way she talked when describing him couldn’t be faked. Though, it was still funny to see a strong woman like Helena go all soft when talking about her mate.
"I would like to meet him one day. He seems very nice and quite handsome too," I whispered the last part into her ear, so Ryan couldn't hear it.
“You will. When you come to our Kingdom,” she answered confidently before going to help Ryan to prepare our breakfast.
“What does the Ignis Kingdom looks like? Is it similar to this one?” I asked curiously about their home and my mate’s Kingdom.
“It is quite similar, but the Ignis Kingdom is larger in surface areas. There are even some regions that are uninhabitable because of the extreme weather,” my mate briefly explained as he washed the blood away from the carcass.
I nodded in understanding, “Why are there two Kingdoms?”
For the first time, I learned things that weren’t taught at school. Ryan explained that a few generations ago, there was only one Kingdom. The King had two sons with two different women. One had the angelic wings and the other demonic wings. As they grew older, tensions started to build in the Kingdom. People would take sides depending on their wings.
One day, a war exploded and the two sons started to fight for the throne. The Aquilam clan, preferred order and hierarchy, classing people and soldiers into classes: knights, archers, farmers and so on. The Ignis clan preferred the opposite idea. They did not need a strict hierarchy. Everyone, even the weakest could become anything they wanted if they worked hard enough.
After years of quarrels and never-ending wars, the citizens were suffering. Many lost their lives fighting for their rightful heir. Therefore, the two princes decided to finish the war with a fight to the death. And the Ignis clan won. But even then, some people from the Aquilam clan refused to accept the man as their King. Therefore, the prince gave a small patch of land to the little prince that was born from the Ignis prince step-brother and mate.
Even though the war ended, the tension between both Kingdom never died down. In a stagnant state of hate toward each other, both countries stopped communicating with each other and grew farther apart.
When Ryan concluded his explanation, I now understood why we didn’t learn anything about the creation of our Kingdom. The Aquilam clan lost. In order to keep their pride in the eyes of future generations, they decided to hide the truth. But how could we ever learn from our past mistakes if we don’t even know our own history? Whoever chose to make this decision was a fool.
But what if we tell them the truth? With enough education, the grudge between the two clans may slowly fade away. One day, we may even get to live all together without caring about our wings. Yeah, right. As if it would ever happen. I just needed to see people like the King and the Prince know that it won’t be so easily accomplished.
I thanked Helena for handing me the cooked meat. As I ate my breakfast, I thought about the citizens of the Ignis Kingdom. Would they be opposed to me mating with their King? Would they hate me like my kind hates them?
"What troubling your mind?" my mate asked with concerns.
I hesitated before answering him. Should I tell him? I didn’t want to insult his people. But I didn’t want to hide anything from him. “What if your people don’t like me? I’ll technically be an enemy, and I don’t even have wings.”
“You shouldn’t worry too much about it. They may seem distant at first, but they will slowly warm up to you,” my mate answered honestly. “A few years ago, a child from your Kingdom entered our territory by accident. Fortunately, for him, a young couple took him in and raised him like their own child. Even the couple’s neighbours helped them to make the child feel at ease. Until he mysteriously disappeared one day. They looked for him for days, but couldn’t be found. I only hope that he is still alive and well.”
I frowned at his answer, but still nodded, nonetheless. We all hurried to finish eating our meal, so we could go look after my Daniel Vanburen. After cleaning up, Ryan wrapped his arms around my waist and in a matter of seconds, we were flying high up in the sky. As we were silently flying at an incredible speed, I could hear their wings flapping powerfully. Even Sebastian wasn’t able to fly at this speed. I wondered if I would ever be able to be as skilled as them? Their wings were bigger and stronger than mine, though. I wondered if I train hard enough, will my wings gain in power and size too?
Suddenly, a loud roar resonated through the whole forest. Both Ryan and Helena stopped in their tracks while looking at the direction the roar came from. And in a blink of an eye, all the Moon Dragons were back. They were surrounding Helena as she was patting their head while praising them.
This was when I noticed that one of the dragons was heavily injured. Therefore, we landed, so we could give some treatment to the poor little guy. As Helena was tending to the injured one, Ryan “talked” to the other ones. For my part, I didn’t understand a thing. I only heard the dragons grumbling and roaring when Ryan asked them a question. Yet, a few minutes later, my mate announced that the dragons found the place where my father had been hiding.
As soon as Helena finished to take care of the injured dragon, we followed them for approximatively an hour and a half. On our way there, we reached a lighter part of the forest. From the sky, we could easily see the ground through the trees. Soon, Ryan noticed some traces of a campfire that was extinguished not long ago. This only meant one thing. The man couldn’t be too far away from us.
Once more, Helena took out the object reeking of my dad’s scent before showing it to the dragons. They all pushed each other to be the first one to take the first sniff. Then, they started turning around the fireplace with their noses glued to the ground. After a minute, one of them grunted before turning around to fly away.
Were they expecting us to follow him?
“Let’s hope they found the right man. This way, you'll be mine and mine alone," my mate whispered when I was back in his arms causing me to blush.
"I can't wait."
