The woman in the trench coat reached inside her coat and pulled out a small, round object. She made a few steps backwards, wound up and threw it through the window inside. Once the glass broke, she hurried back to the others but kept back so that she won’t be noticed right away. Still, she was ready to defend herself.
Screaming was audible from the broken window and it moved outside after the large entrance doors had opened. Sergeij was the first to strike. His pistol had a suppressor, so that he could take out three of the men rushing outside with ease. The sound was still loud, but not loud enough to alert anyone else who was further inside the building, anyone who wouldn’t have noticed the smoke bomb that came through the window, so to speak.
Jonathan took care of the rest, four in number. He carried a slim sword with a slightly curved, pitch black blade. It was, in his opinion more effective than the silver bullets the others carried but it required a lot of skill to wield it.
The two fighters turned their heads back to the woman after they were sure that no more people were rushing outside. She nodded, so they and Charlotte rushed inside. They entered a spacious entrance hall. The high ceiling and walls were made from dark wood covered in ancient layers of dust and the floor was tiled with once expensive, now cracked Iznik tiles. The construction of the hall amplified their steps, so they were forced to walk slowly and carefully.
Jonathan stopped and looked at Sergeij. He gestured to him, that he’ll go upstairs and that Sergeij should take out anyone who still lingered on the ground floor. He turned his head to Charlotte, to whom he gestured that she should accompany Sergeij. The tall man and the petite girl nodded, and Jonathan carefully made his way up.
They didn’t need to purge the whole building. Their primary goal was all the way up the mansion, but it was safer, in case the inhabitants had seen them coming and planned to attack them from behind. This wasn’t Jonathan’s first time cleaning out a nest, but it was his first time tackling something of this caliber.
As he approached the last steps, he heard voiced coming from a couple of the rooms, he could now see. Apparently, they didn’t anticipate them coming and that meant all the more fun for Jonathan.
