Jonathan was already thinking about her pale skin, how soft and warm it would feel if he would trace it with his lips, feeling the pulse underneath, but he was quickly yanked back into reality when someone knocked on Sadie’s door. With that his eyes returned to normal.
Sadie jumped up and opened the door. It was Charlotte.
“Sadie, do you have a minute?”, she asked and peered inside. Once she noticed Jonathan, she added: “Or should I come back later?”
“N-no! it’s fine, come in, come in!”
Charlotte sat down across Jonathan, so that Sadie was still sitting next to him.
“I searched the library for something that could help us and found a few interesting things”, she explained. “Although a half-vampire, a dhampir is not something that’s unheard of there were only a few cases, so that it was written off as a myth by the Council.”
“So it is possible?”, Sadie asked.
“Well, yes.”
“Was there more?”, Jonathan asked curiously.
“The reason why there are only so few known cases, is that there need to be multiple factors at play. First of all, the vampire side needs to be activated by ingesting a significant amount of human blood, which most sane people usually don’t do. Second of all, because of vampires’ violent nature, a dhampir child is only possible if the vampire parent, usually a man because it’s hard for vampire women to get pregnant, is of high status and not a servant.”
Jonathan froze. So everything the vampire lord told and showed him was true after all.
“Do you know if the vampire lord had any female concubines?”
“He did actually. She was called the second queen. There isn’t much about her in the scriptures because she didn’t live for long. But it’s said that the lord loved her very much. But there aren’t any known cases of him having children. Why do you ask?”
“Because the lord told me that I was his son.”
