This non-cannon tale features Athena and Achilles (also known as Chill), twins from Colorful Goth, and the company SlideRuleGames (SRG) from the Gamers and Magic series. As proposed by Nuutgirl for spring inksgiving 2019. <3
"Athena, wake up we're going to be late," Achilles, my twin brother said as he shook my arm. Ugh... really? Did I have to wake up?
I mumbled something and rolled over, throwing the blanket over my head. It was summer, did I really need to wake up before the flucking sun came up?
"Athena! We'll be late for our first day at SRG!" Chill was being way too noisy.
The letters SRG filtered into my brain, and I practically leaped out of bed. My brother reared back and held his arms out as if to block an attack, and I snorted, "Really bro? I'm not going to attack you, we're going to be late for SRG!"
SRG was short for SlideRuleGames, only the best gaming company in existence! And Chill and I had managed to swing summer internships at the place. How flucking cool was that?
The only thing cooler would be winning the bet with my brother that I could stop using bad language. If I don't use a curse word for six months, I'll win tickets from him to see my favorite band, Negative Sheep. It's been tough, but I only have a month left to go. I can do this!
"I can never be too sure," he said as he dropped his hands from their defensive pose, "get ready, I'll make us some breakfast." My brother can be so cool sometimes. Okay, he's always cool, because of some freak of nature, I swear. I kid you not.
You see, my brother is a nerd and a geek... He's a neek. Which means he should be awkward and... and... well he shouldn't be like some charismatic cool dude in some movie, but he is. With his perfect teal hair and perfect teal eyes and perfect white smile. If I didn't love my twin so much, I'd hate him on principle alone.
Me, on the other hand, I'm not a neek. But I'm short and awkward, and all the things my brother should be, but isn't. Life isn't flucking fair, I tell you. My long blue hair matches my blue eyes, and that's maybe the coolest thing about me. Oh well.
I pulled on my favorite black and white striped thigh high stockings, a pair of black shorts, and a t-shirt that said, Can You Knot? with a picture of a cartoon mouse tied to train tracks, with the knots in the ropes done all fancy. I tugged on my boots, leaving the laces loose and ran down the steps, skipping every other one on the way down.
This was probably my biggest mistake because I hit one of the steps wrong and tilted forward way more than I'd meant to and tried to skip the last few steps all together as I went head first towards the floor.
Something caught the back of my shirt, and I stopped a mere inch from face planting on the ugly shag carpet. I looked over my shoulder, "Thanks, bro." Seriously what would I do without him?
He let go and I oofed as I fell the inch to the ground. I got up and dusted myself off and huffed. He handed me an egg sandwich, and I mostly forgave him for dropping me.
"I knew you'd do that," He shook his head.
I shrugged, "It's a thing." Did I forget to mention that I'm a tad gravity challenged? Yep... that's me.
