The man didn’t seem to be weird out by my comment. In all truth he seemed
to be very intrigued. This made me wonder if I should run away or try to find
out if he knew anything. Standing there I look around then back to him. It
wasn’t my imagination that no one even noticed him talking to me.
"Who are you really?"
He smiled as taking my hand. I didn’t get a chance to talk before we were in a
run down the side of the street. Where in the hell was he taking me?
“Hey...”
He just ignored my words moving forward. When we stopped it was in front
of a huge building. The name written on the building was Carson Inc.
“This is a clue to what you are looking for Lain.”
My eyes widen as hearing my name.
“Who are you?”
He lets go of my hand stepping back a few steps.
“I am one with you. This is all I can share with you. I’m sorry I couldn’t
remember more.”
Wait did that mean this man was the arrogant wolf? Holy shit he was good
looking when alive.
I feel myself being shaken. Opening my eyes Bren and Kibo looked relieved.
“Someone want to tell me why I was being shaken like a rag doll?”
They both backed away a little seeing I was slightly annoyed.
“Well you slept an entire day. We got worried so wanted to wake you up.”
I let out a sigh just patting them both on the head. How could I be angry with
them when they were so worried.
“It is okay calm down. I think the wolf let me see one of the few memories
of his...I’m still not sure what I am supposed to do with it.”
Bren takes my hand holding it tightly and Kibo does the other. She smiles at
me speaking in her soft voice.
“We will be here to help you figure it out. I know I might have problems
since I am not that smart but I will try.”
Bren and I pull her into a group hug smiling.
“Don’t let anyone ever make you feel small again Kibo. You just have a lot to
learn is all. Hell I am still learning as well.”
The kids laughed at me as we all stood up deciding on our route. The Carson
Inc building still bothered me a great deal. Shaking my head I take the bag
from Bren. Opening it I take out the light sword handing it over to Kibo.
“This is for you. It is a sword that activates when you push on the green
jewel.”
I raised my brow when seeing her excited expression. How in the hell do you
describe empty eyes but a face full of excitement? Bren seemed to have the
same look at me as we laughed. We decided on the route that took us around
most of the villages. I’ve never been near any of them but didn’t want any
trouble. In the distance a man stood hidden just watching their group.
He had been in the city and noticed her kindness to the raccoon girl. He
smirked seeing how carefree they seemed to act. Lain smiled looking over
her shoulder, her tongue slightly out. She has smelled the man for a while.
Since he wasn’t coming closer she didn’t care.
“On our way how about I teach you both how to defend yourselves?”
Kibo and Bren smiled grabbing Lain’s hand as they walked. The man followed
them for a week before he decided to leave. Lain just ignored him after her
initial sticking out her tongue. They had stopped to rest in a cave that was
close to one of the small villages. It appeared that this was actually a all
human village. If they went into it there would be trouble. Lain and Kibo
decide to take a rest while Bren explores.
He walks along a worn path close but still far enough from the village. There
is a festival going on so music can be heard. Taking in a deep breathe he can
smell the feast for everyone.
“Seems they are going to have fun...”
He looks back to the cave smiling.
“I wish we could have a place like that for ourselves.”
His long ragged brown hair draped into his face as he messed with some
stones. That is when he jumped hearing someone coming. It was a small girl
who looked about Kibo’s age. He stood up as to not act like a animal.
“Hello...are you lost?”
The girl looks up at him tears in her eyes. Just seeing that he went to his
knees with a worried expression not knowing how to deal with the child.
“It is okay. No need to cry.”
She shook her head and grabbed his hand.
“Please help my brother and I were climbing the trees, He got stuck in one of the trunks.”
Bren patted her head like Lain did his own.
“Alright lead the way I can help.”
The little girl wiped her eyes trying not to get snot on herself or him. She led
him into the woods some to a huge tree trunk. As he looked down there was
a small boy at the bottom. It looked as if his fall had hurt his leg.
“Don’t move I will be right down to get you.”
The small boy nodded as trying to act grown up not crying, it wasn’t working.
Bren starts to climb down using his claw in the wood. The little girl kept
staring down at her brother telling him it will be fine. At the bottom the boy
had a huge cut on his leg.
“Here hold onto me tightly as I wrap this up first.”
The boy did as told while Bren tore his shirt wrapping the wound. He let out
a sigh of relief as they made their way back to the surface.
“Mister...are you a in-human?”
The children didn’t seemed scared so he nodded. Bren scratched the back of
his head siting down with them.
“Please don’t go telling people since I am not trying to draw attention.”
The children smile giving him a big hug. The little girl grabbed his hand and
hugged it tightly.
“To us you are a savoir. We don’t care what you are. You saved my brother
that is all that matters.”
He stood up picking up the little boy walking them back to the village
entrance.
“This is far as I go...sorry I couldn’t do more for you.”
The children shook their heads smiling.
“You helped us so much already.”
Bren smiled and waved as the children walked into the village. This was his
cue to head back to the cave. If he told Lain would she be angry or be happy
he helped the human kids. Either way he felt she would be proud of him.
When he arrived at the cave Kibo was looking for him. She took his hand
walking up to the small fire.
“Lain already knows...”
Bren stared at her with a little shock. He then hid his face blushing a little
embarrassed.
“It was a nice thing of you to do, don’t feel embarrassed. We show kindness
where we can. Sometimes it is returned and other times it isn’t.”
He felt relieved hearing her words to him. Lain patted his head leaning down
kissing it.
“Don’t worry about ever telling me something alright.”
Bren nodded eating the food Kibo handed to him. Lain walked out from the
cave looking to the sky. It would take two more days to reach one of the most
known ruins. Perhaps once there they would have more of an inkling to the
past events. I have a bad feeling the more we learn the more dangers that
will come after us. This was just an assumption but usually those tend to be
correct. Letting out a breathe of the cool air I turn to see Kibo and Bren
goofing off. It was nice to see their smiles.
He really do a good thing for those kids. Maybe if they do tell it might be
alright...I can only hope. The more people change their minds of us being
nothing but monsters or slaves the better. I run my hands through my white
hair seeing that it has grown really long in such a short amount of time. My
skin even had faint silver fire tribal marking along my ribs. It was a little
weird to think of how much had already happened. Would my mother be
proud of me...or would she hate me now? I let out another sigh just ignoring
myself. In the morning I got the kids ready to go.
As we walked the two kids Bren helped were on the path. It looked like there
was a big group with them. We stopped just staring to them as they bowed.
“Thank you so much for your kindness.”
Bren smiled to the kids.
“I’m just glad he wasn’t hurt worse is all. It is a scary world for a little one to be hurt and alone.”
The children ran up giving him a hug as they then hugged us as well.
“If you all are not in a rush please stay in the village for a night and relax.
We don’t have a huge amount but are more then happy to share.”
It was nice and shocking that they didn’t care what we were. I look to Kibo
and Bren who had the little puppy dog eyes. Letting out a sigh I nod just
following the group.
The children grabbed Kibo and Bren starting to show them around the
village. I stayed back sitting down on a porch with some of the parents.
“Are they your children? They both seem to be very well behaved.”
Looking over I see an older woman in her late sixties. She looked to have
some kind of illness with her bones. I felt bad for her since they didn’t have a
cure in this small village.
“No, I found Bren when I was hunting. As for Kibo we rescued her from the
big City to the south. Her master had beat her....then left her to die in the
street.”
The old woman looked to Kibo with sad eyes. I could tell that the people here
didn’t seem to see people as human or not. To these people we were all the
same.
If only the rest of the world thought the same thing.
“Thank you for all of your kindness with us here. I know most people would turn us away.”
The old woman laughed a little as placing her crunched inward hands on my
own.
“No need to thank us. You saved my great grandson. We owe all of you a
debt. It is hard for your kind in this world. Maybe this little reprieve will
help lighten your spirits for what journey you are taking.”
Her kindness and warmth almost felt efficacious. Just sitting with the old
woman I watch during the festival. The kids seemed to love being included. It
was hard to image that tomorrow we would leave these kind people. Bren
and Kibo had never been treated like other children. Watching them I
refused to let others suffer like this any longer. When night fell we stayed
with the old woman. It felt like heaven to sleep in a bed. Although I could
have done without having Kibo and Bren crushing me in their sleep. In the
morning we say our good bye’s to everyone wishing them well. It was nice
being treated like a normal person for a short while.
The next two days went by fast since we felt in good spirits. Those people
had helped us more then we had actually helped them. We stop standing on a
cliff looking down to what was a city at one time. The over grown vegetation
made it hard to make out where a building started or ended.
“This is going to take a while you two. We need to be careful since it is rumored that some wild in-humans live in the area.”
I didn’t want to take any risk with their lives.
