“Emerald darling, I need your help” I plead on the phone.
“What did you get yourself into this time”
“Well, long story short I have an old friend who fainted on arrival”
“I swear to god you attract disasters, I am coming”
She came within minutes. She was ready to help without asking questions. She trusted I will tell her in the right time. She gave me a small paper written on it some medications and that was my cue.
I went to the pharmacy to buy the medication she needed and while I was paying I heard someone asking the pharmacist if he had seen a girl, he had a picture on his phone. He told him to report it immediately.
When I turned I saw her face hung on the door. I wondered what did she do, why was her face on a wanted poster.
I went back to the workshop it was almost dawn now. I had a couple of projects that needed adjustments. I finished everything and sat there exhausted, drained.
I did not feel anything until Varden came and woke me up apparently I fell asleep on the couch in the office. “Emerald called” he said.
I went back home; the house was very quiet unlike the raging doubt in my mind. I was curious, furious even. But when I saw her laying helpless in that bed I forgot everything.
“How is she doing?” I whispered to Emerald. “Getting better, she exerted a lot of effort I think she walked for a long distance and she did not sleep in a few days but she’ll be okay don’t worry YOUR FRIEND will be alright” She said that wearing her coat and heading to the door, she turned and looked at me
“Don’t forget to give her this after every meal” she pointed at the Vitamins bottle in the medicine bag i held.
Part of me wanted to hand her to the police but my heart ached for her, I said I needed closure well here she is. I drowned in my thoughts, I need to go back to the workshop. I need to get my mind off this. So I put the soup and pills on the tray and when I was about to put it near the bed her hands caught my sleeve she looked right at me.
“Oldrick” she said faintly. I turned to face her “There is no one here with that name miss”.
