I woke up, and untangled my limbs from Macey’s. We had been up a bit later last night than I had been hoping for. I stared down at the blonde, her mouth was slightly agape. she let out a cute little snore as I rolled away. I reached over to the side table of the guest room and picked up my phone. It was five in the morning. Dammit, why did she have to ruin my late mornings. I used to hate waking up in the morning, but now it’s not so bad. Last night was a mix of things for me. I enjoyed the cuddling we had all night, but it made me wish I could do more for her. I guess there was only one thing I could do.
I got up from our bed and went over to our travel bag. I picked out a nice top and some yoga pants. I also grabbed a jacket for the morning weather. Then I went towards her bathroom to relieve myself. I hated to leave Macey alone in bed, but what I wanted would be far better than her waking up in bed alone. Stephanie’s house had a nice fenced in backyard, this was perfect for me to be able to come in and out without leaving her house unlocked. I slowly opened the back door to her patio, and snuck around to the front of her house. I pulled up google, and started looking up a place for me to go. My search yielded results as I popped in my earbuds and headed down the street. The sun was still down and wouldn’t be up for another forty-minutes. I zipped up my jacket and turned on some decent tunes. I actually found myself enjoying my pre-sunrise walk. The feeling of being up before everyone else was refreshing.
Twenty minutes of walking later I arrived at the closest convenience store, and started looking for exactly what I needed. I guess no one besides me was up this early, except for the one cashier that was standing on register three. It was a thirty-year-old woman, every once in a while her eye lids would droop, and she would jolt back. I almost laughed at the way she almost fell asleep standing up. I walked over to the nuts section and picked out a some peanuts. I always loved peanuts. I was sure Macey liked them too. I laid them down in the seat of the grocery cart, and went over to the isle with granola. There, I picked out a hefty bag of granola, and after that I got a bottle of honey . Then I came to the most difficult decision. What fruit should I get? I stood there for a solid five minutes trying to decide what I should get for all of them. I should probably stick to something normal like blueberries and strawberries. The last thing I would need is yogurt.
Once everything was settled I went back to the cash register. The old lady was now looking much more awake that she had been before. “It must suck having to be up this early every morning,” I said trying to make light conversation.
“Well, it's good for an old woman like me. It keeps me productive.” She finished checking me out, and grabbing my bags I made my way back out onto the street. It was starting to pick up some traffic now that the sun was fully out. I sighed knowing that I wouldn’t experience the tranquility I had this morning. I went back to listening to music. My attention was divided by the songs I was listening to, and the rhythmic walking back to Stephanie’s house. I wish that I had a car so that Macey and I could go places faster, but I was too poor for that. Maybe I should get a job. There was still enough time left in summer for me to get a job and save up for a car. It would help Mace and I out in the long run too. I would need to split my time between soccer and the job though. Mace and I could spend time there at least. We would also have time at night to spend together too. I wonder if Lauren could get me a job at the grocery store.
I bet if Lauren and I worked together we could make a good team. She could check out the customers and I could bag the items she was scanning. The thought permeated as I continued the walk back. Once I arrived back at the house, I slipped through the gate to her back yard. I checked my phone it was seven now. I doubt Steph or Jenny are up. Those two had almost kept me and Macey up all night. I am happy for them though. They are a really cute couple, and once they start communicating a little better I bet they could last. I walked up the small gravel walkway back to the patio. I twisted the knob to the back door, and thank god, it was still unlocked. I quietly shut the door, and went towards Stephanie's kitchen. I am sure she would be cool with me using some of her bowls and spoons. It was for the good of breakfast so it is justified it right?
I went over to her cabinet and picked out three really cute bowls, they had little ducklings in water circling the diameter of the bowls. I smiled at the adorable design, and brought them over to the island. Sitting out all of my ingredients I began to assemble what would later be four parfaits. First was a thin layer of granola on the bottom, then a layer of yogurt. I then moved over to the chopping block and began slicing the strawberries in halves. I also took out the blueberries and got them ready for garnishing. Next was the layer of strawberries, and then another layer of granola. The last layer was yogurt and then I sprinkled them on top with blueberries. I took out the honey and drizzled a quick design over the breakfast and sit it to the side. I repeated the process a few more times, and once they were all made I took a seat at her dining room table. I needed to take a moment to slow down before I went back upstairs to lay down with Macey.
Setting all of the parfaits into the fridge I traveled back up stairs, and making another quick pit stop in the bathroom I re-entered the bedroom. I shedded my outside clothes and slipped back into my sleep clothes. I changed and snuck back into bed with Macey. She miraculously stayed asleep throughout the entire process. Once I was back underneath the covers she must have unconsciously sensed my presence. Her arms curled around me, and I sighed with a smile. I shifted into her chest as her grip around me began to tighten. Her body heat coaxed my eyes closed, and I faded back to sleep.
I jumped out of bed as Jenny came into the bedroom in a rush. “It’s ten am and you two still aren't awake. Get up you two!” She cheered. I looked at her with a dull expression. Was she seriously criticising us for still being asleep.
“Look you two basically kept us up with you. At least let us sleep for however long we need too. Also I have already been out and come back,” I said in response. She had stopped as soon as I said she kept us up with her and Stephanie. I giggled a little bit to myself, and I looked over at Macey who was rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.
“You left, and came back? You should have woken me up so I didn’t freak out if we all had woke up and couldn’t find you,” Macey said as a little bit of her concern was showing through.
“It was five in the morning, and I didn’t feel like going back to sleep. I didn’t want to worry you either, so I kinda just went. It was fun, you guys need to go down stairs and look at what I made. Macey and I got out of bed and met Jenny at our door. The three of us plodded downstairs to meet Stephanie at her kitchen counter. She had brewed us all some french vanilla coffees. “Thanks Steph, I made something for all of us too.” I ran over to the fridge and grabbed two of the parfaits. Everyone looked at me in excitement as I distributed our breakfasts. I couldn’t wait to taste what I had made.
“When did you make these Liz?” Stephanie asked as she went over to the cabinet drawers. It was the same one I had grabbed the knife from earlier. She pulled out four spoons and we all went to her table with our food and coffee.
“I woke up at five this morning and I wanted to do something special for Macey since she was under the weather last night. So I went to the supermarket for the ingredients. Btw, you need to add a lock for your backyards gate.” I lightly blew onto the steaming cup, and took a small sip. Steph sat there looking at me in confusion. “I went out the back so the front door wouldn’t be unlocked.” When I finished explaining how the parfaits had come about we all started to eat. After testing the heat of the coffee, I took my spoon and mixed together the contents of my bowl. I looked down at the beautiful swirl of colors. I took a spoonful and then I looked over at mace. “Hey babe.” Macey looked up at me waiting for my question. “Say ah.” She leaned in and opened her mouth. There was something so cute about her whenever I fed her. Not that she wasn’t cute all the time anyway.
“You did an amazing job darling.” Macey said as she pulled away from the spoon. I bit my lip at her. I noticed she had a bit of the yogurt on the corner of her mouth. Like the day before, I reached over and wiped it onto my thumb. Maintaining eye contact I cleaned my thumb slowly with my tongue. Macey did the same to me, and I took the bite greedily. My grin matched hers as my creations flavor was overwhelming my tastebuds. I actually succeeded in making a breakfast dish other than french toast. Granted this one was really simple, but still I will take that as a win.
“So do you guys want to hang out some more before you guys go home? I feel bad because Jenny and I kinda ruined last night for the sleepover,” Steph said rubbing her neck.
“You two didn’t ruin the sleepover, if anything it made things a little more interesting. It’s not everyday I deal with other couple’s troubles, so it was kinda fun,” I said laughing.
“What did you say to Jenny anyways?” She asked taking a sip from her coffee.
I swatted away her question and let Macey and I exchange bites. “Nothing really, I mean all I really said was that you two needed to communicate your feeling better. It was pretty obvious she wanted to do things with you, I mean she was-. Owww, what was that for?” Did Jenny really have to kick me for talking about last night. I sat there rubbing my shin as Jenny did her best to change the topics, but she was failing miserably.
“Either Way, Liz thank you for helping me out.”
“Anytime, I am sure you two would done the same thing if Macey and I had been in your positions.” I took another gulp of the coffee. “So, do you guys want to go shopping?”
“Hellz yeah.”
“That sounds fun.”
“Sure Love.”
