Amber's Stretch Juneself

Day 5: Animalistic

Day 5: Animalistic

Jun 05, 2019

“There has not been any change in his situation, and it’s been three days. Are you sure he’s going to be alright?”

“Unfortunately, I can’t say anything for sure. I’ve never seen or even heard about anything like this. Based on what your son told, it seems like his psyche may have been damaged. I don’t know if I’m a right person to treat him.”

“We can’t take him to anywhere. It’d be too risky. What if he bites someone? Or they find out other ways?”

“You’re right, it’d be too dangerous to take him anywhere. We can only try and support him for now, I guess. And see how this will develop.”

The men were talking to each other with a low voice while occasionally glancing to one corner of the room. A young boy sat in that corner, resting his chin on his knees and arms wrapped around his legs. When he noticed that the men were looking at him, he growled at them and bared his teeth. His dark long hair hang over his eyes that had a reserved look in them.

“It’s alright son, we don’t hurt you,” one of the men said and the growling stopped but the boy still looked at them with suspicion in his brown eyes.

“I think it’d be better if we left for now,” the other man said.

“Yeah, maybe that’s for the best.”

The men left and closed the door behind them. Tension disappeared from the boy’s body. He hunched down with a deep sigh. He was tired of the chaos in his head. So many thoughts fighting against his mind, instinct and reason clashing.

Footsteps outside made the boy perk up right away. The door opened slowly, and he growled again. Another boy peeked inside.

“I…I brought you some food,” the boy said. Slowly he walked inside with a plate in one hand. He closed the door with another. The boy in the corner looked at him warily. The smell of food was delicious.

“D…dad said you might like it,” the older boy continued. He took a few careful steps forward, keeping a close eye on his brother. He didn’t want to make him feel threatened. He put the plate on the floor and took a few steps back.

The boy in the corner looked at the piece of meat on the plate. It looked delicious. He reached towards it and grabbed the meat from the plate with his bare hands. He sniffed at it a few times and then sunk his teeth in the raw meat, ripping pieces of it and gobbling them almost whole.

The other boy looked at the scene and felt an uncomfortable churning in his stomach. He didn’t want to feel grossed out, but it was hard to look at his dear younger brother behave like this.

The deer was gone quickly, and the boy turned his eyes towards his brother looking more hungry than earlier.

“I..I don’t have anymore. See, the plate is empty,” he stuttered. The younger brother growled and creeped closer. Hastily the other boy retreated towards the door. The growling got louder and teeth were bared.

“Please. It’s me. Don’t you recognize me? I’m your brother!”

The words had no effect. The younger brother leaped forward trying to grab the boy. With a scared scream he slipped through the door and slammed it closed right in front of the younger boy. He heard him slam against the door. The boy growled angrily and threw the plate against the door, shattering it to dozen small pieces. With shaking hands, the older boy turned a key in the lock.

The thing in that room wasn’t his brother.

Today's text is inspired by my novel, Alone in the Night. A little snippet from one character's past. It fit the theme so nicely that I couldn't pass the chance.

This series is meant for sharing my creations for the "Stretch Juneself" challenge made by Rodimus13 on the Tapas forum.

My goal is to post every day for the month of June with a text related to that days topic.

I want to share this as a series because there will be many different themes and styles of writing in here I think you might enjoy as well. Also you will most likely see some of my old and current OCs and those that possibly appear in future series as well.

If you enjoy reading these prompts, maybe try it yourself. All the links will be in the description of the first episode.
