102. EXT. THE FOREST - FIVE MINUTES LATER
Abigale and Gabriel run into the dim forest. Their clothes are tattered and ripped, cuts exposed and blood slowly dripping down their beings.
There are SCREAMS heard faintly O.S.
ABIGALE: We have to go back.
GABRIEL: You’ll die. They told us.
HOWLING is heard in the distance. He pulls her towards a large tree.
GABRIEL: You. Into the tree.
ABIGALE: What?
Gabriel grabs her shoulders.
GABRIEL: Please, just get into the tree. If one person’s gonna live, it better be you.
A GUNSHOT goes off in the distance. It startles them both.
ABIGALE: You’ll come back, right?
He HARRUMPHS, and looks over his shoulder.
GABRIEL: Go.
She climbs up into the tree, about ten feet above Gabriel’s head.
GABRIEL: I’ll lead them away.
Abigale nods.
He nods in response and turns, running into the forest. Gabriel YELLS as he runs. Two wolves turn from running towards Abigale, and run after him.
She watches as he disappears into the distance, shivering as the wind BLOWS.
Abigale suddenly WHINES, and clutches her leg.
Her head dips before she picks it up again. Abigale struggles in keeping her head up, weak from exhaustion and dehydration.
103. INT. LOUNGE CAR - FLASHBACK
Abigale and Gabriel read their respective books. There’s no sound.
104. EXT. THE FOREST - SAME TIME
Her eyes close.
FADE TO BLACK
105. EXT. THE FOREST - AN HOUR LATER
BELLANGER (O.S.) (Distantly): Abigale...!
POV: ABIGALE BEING LIFTED OUT OF THE TREE
Abigale opens her eyes and INHALES loudly. She squirms for a moment to find who’s holding her as they help her down.
Passenger #5 holds her waist while he carries her down the tree.
Abigale’s bloody feet touch ground. Her legs wobble; Bellanger catches her.
BELLANGER: You’re okay.
Abigale balls her hands against his chest.
ABIGALE (Stammering): B - wh - where’s...
She turns her head.
Gabriel stands at attention, arms pressed into his stomach as he SILENTLY tell the other rescuers about what happened. He looks worse - clothes more tattered, more scratched up, and looking very tired.
She sighs.
ABIGALE (Whispering): Oh thank God...
BELLANGER: What happened? Why were you in a tree?
Abigale’s eyes widen. She pushes away from Bellanger and stands.
ABIGALE: Gabriel.
Gabriel goes to her.
GABRIEL: You’re not ready.
ABIGALE: What’re you talking about?
He doesn’t answer.
Abigale pushes herself up and sprints towards the wreck. Her leg gives out, and she collapses.
GABRIEL: Abigale!
He runs and grabs her.
ABIGALE: Let me go!
GABRIEL: Abigale, you’re not -
She elbows him in the side. Gabriel lets go. She stands and limps forward.
GABRIEL (O.S.): Abigale!
106. EXT. THE WRECK - A MINUTE LATER
The sun shines.
Abigale finds the wreck desolate. She slowly takes in everything around her. Mud that hadn’t dried SQUISHES under her feet.
Michael’s grave is still distinguishable.
Abigale’s leg gives out again, and she struggles to slip into the lounge car.
107. INT. LOUNGE CAR - SAME TIME
Upon entering, Abigale recoils, and presses her back to the still-closed door at the very end of the carriage.
Before her is a line of death, thirteen bodies in total. And one dead wolf.
Blood is everywhere. The ornate woodwork is scarred, and the light fixtures have been pulled from their places in the wall for protection; they’re scattered about the floor.
She shakes, and slides to the floor.
108. EXT. THE WRECK - SAME TIME
Gabriel limps towards the lounge car, with Bellanger and the other men in pursuit.
Bellanger turns to the men.
BELLANGER: Wait here?
They nod.
Gabriel climbs into the lounge car.
109. INT. LOUNGE CAR - SAME TIME
He enters the carriage and finds Abigale; he kneels down beside her. She’s still shaking, frozen in terror, her eyes glued to the dead in front of her.
ABIGALE (Choking): Did they -
She GULPS.
ABIGALE (Choking): Could they -
Bellanger climbs into the car.
BELLANGER: Abigale, we need to go now.
Abigale's face scrunches in pain, and she SCREAMS. A sound of absolute anguish. She buries her face in her hands and cries, shoulders heaving with each breath.
BELLANGER: Abigale -
She pushes him away, still sobbing.
Gabriel kneels down.
GABRIEL: Abigale -
She shoves him, unable to look at him. She covers her eyes and wipes her face, seemingly unable to stop herself from crying.
Gabriel and Bellanger glance at each other.
Bellanger scoops her up, despite her protests and swinging fists, and carries her out of the carriage.
Gabriel lingers before deciding to walk down the length of the carriage.
Claude’s staring blankly into the ceiling, lying with someone under him. Gabriel shuts his eyes.
Gabriel’s foot shuffles the pistol in Ratchett’s hand.
Susan’s eyes stare through the window into the distance. He closes them.
Jasper looks asleep, his back pressed against the wall. His neck and hands are covered in blood.
The Woman lies face down, hands clutching her stomach.
Gabriel looks pained, but notices the door to the sleeping car is ajar.
110. INT. SLEEPING CAR CORRIDOR - SAME TIME
Gabriel slips through the door into the downcast sleeping car. He notices the bathroom door ajar, and pushes it open.
The Woman’s two children SCREAM and pull back.
Gabriel looks back towards the still-opened door to the lounge car.
He kneels down, and holds out his hands.
GABRIEL (Whispering): You’re okay.
The two still cower.
111. EXT. THE WRECK - SAME TIME
Abigale is BAWLING, pounding her fists into Bellanger’s shoulder as he carries her to the rescue train.
Several men linger outside the carriage, and are startled by the sight of the sleeping car door opening.
Out steps Gabriel with the Boy in his arms, and the little Girl trailing behind them.
GABRIEL: Take them.
He kneels down and pushes the Boy back gently.
GABRIEL (Slowly): They’re here to help, okay?
The Boy nods, and turns to one of the men to help him down.
Gabriel turns to the Girl. He slips out the carriage and opens his arms.
GABRIEL (Slowly): I’m right here.
The Girl slowly kneels and wraps her arms around Gabriel’s neck. He pulls her from the sleeping car slowly.
