-Luke's perspective-
The two guys got to their feet and together we headed out to the forest.
"If we are going to be traveling together I think it's only right that you tell us your names," said Lucy.
Thank god, I thought I was going to have to be referring to them as "The two guys" the entire trip.
"My name's Colt and the loud one is Kal."
Kal huh. I don't know why but just thinking about the future with him gives me a headache.
"Okay, Colt," I swallowed. Why am I so nervous? So what if I haven't had a real conversation with anyone besides my sister (Or someone trying to kill me) for over a year. "Can we go around the town, I don't really want to see those people again." My stomach turned thinking about their scornful stares.
Questionably he looked back and my eyes went to the ground. Why would you ask that Luke now they think you're weird. besides what if they left something back there. What if they already bought a room for us.
"Sure, why not" replied Colt after a moment.
I looked up in shock. Maybe this trip won't be so bad. "Thanks," I whispered under my breath, a small smile crossing my face.
Running ahead Colt went and grabbed Kal. A huff of laughter betraying my nervous behavior. They're just so comfortable with each other. It's infectious. Plus watching Kal struggle to make his feet touch the ground after being grabbed was pretty funny in itself. Suddenly Kal was released and the boy rushed into town. Why's he going there? I thought we were going around.
"Kal is going to grab our stuff and meet us on the road, shouldn't take too long. Not like we have much anyways."
A flickering of sadness flashed across his face before being masked by the same smile as before.
Lucy took the lead to get us out of the forest and Colt explained a little about himself and Kal.
"I'm sorry to hear about your... Auntie? I'm sure she truly loved you."
"Our father beat us and hired hunters to try to kill us until he just started spending all his money on alcohol," Called back Lucy. "I guess we all have our sap story" she trailed off. "The road is just up ahead."
Scratching my chest at the memory I walked up ahead with Lucy.
Waiting for us was Kal, two backpacks sitting beside him.
I hope the others are as nice as these two. Pushing the old memories to the back of my mind, I smiled. "Let's go," I said quietly.
