"Smile for the camera." The boy glared into it instead.
"Say cheese." He just sighed.
"Smile." It was futile.
"Smile even though your sad.." That's what the song said.
He wasn't sad.
He wasn't anything.
At least not now.
He only had a smile for one person.
The boy left even though he didn't want to.
He came back for the funeral.
He cried.
"I didn't mean to leave you. Come back." He pleaded everyday.
Nothing happened.
He eventually gave up and moved on.
The man sniffed by the grave.
His adopted daughter watched.
She asked who it was.
He explained and she then knew why he smiled even though he though he was sad.
He smiled for the less fortunate.
The less happy.
The living.
The dead.
He smiled on his death bed.
It didn't bring his love back.
It just brought him peace.
Sometimes that's all you need.
