I ran through the halls, finding Lucas on the way, and together we went to search for Collin.
I heard the familiar laughter of the football player as we turned the corner. There he was with a bright grin and a blue bottle which I could only assume was hair dye. Collin was wearing a pair of transparent gloves yet there was no hair dye on them. How did he dye Alex's hair anyway?
"Seriously, Collin?" I shouted as we made it to him.
"Yeah, what kind friend would I be if I didn't pull pranks on him," He asked as we heard a loud shout a few halls away.
"A good one!" I exclaimed as I grabbed Collin's hand. An angry blue-haired Alex come hurling from behind the corner holding...a stick?
"Uh, You guys seeing what I'm seeing?" Lucas inquired while staring the stick.
"Well, Do you see the massive axe he has? " Collin shouted making us turn to him feeling puzzled.
"I see a stick," I explained then Lucas stared at me.
"I see a ruler," He said looking to the 'stick.'
"Where does a guy get an ax from at a school," I pointed out to Collin and the blonde haired football player gasped in amazement.
"It's not an ax anymore," He noted with disbelief pointing to the stick. Alex was standing still panting with fury.
I raised an eyebrow, "What is it then?"
"A stick!" He affirmed and I grinned proudly.
"Well?" I questioned turning to Lucas, "You still see the 'ruler'?"
He nodded, surprising me, "Yeah, it's still a bland wooden ruler."
At that moment I noticed, out of the corner of my eye, that sitting on the floor was Leo, Mr. Channing's rubber ducky. I stared at the duck for awhile trying to see if it would do anything to show myself that I wasn't crazy.
The duck's entire yellow body flashed a bright green before returning to normal leaving me speechlessly. I looked back to Alex when I heard Collin and Lucas gasp.
In Alex's hand was not a stick, ruler, or an ax but instead a sharp shiny knife.
Collin laughed nervously, "H-hey, Alex! You aren't too mad, right?"
Alex's response was a short yet loud huff. I stared at Alex and noticed that he didn't seem like...himself.
Alex was an upbeat cheerful guy with his head in the clouds. He wasn't the type to get mad about a silly child's prank. His eyes were narrowed glaring harshly. This didn't fit his natural behavior. Was there something that Collin to make him this mad?
"W-Well, We'll just leave," Lucas stammered and we all slowly backed up as we moved I picked Leo.
I felt an odd connection to the small duck as I held it softly in my hand. I gave it a small squeeze. and its beak turned purple. When I looked back up Alex the boy was standing up straight confused. He let the knife clatter to the floor.
"What was I doing?" He mumbled before leaving not sparing a glance at us.
All of our eyes went to the duck. We shared the same single thought as we stared.
'What was wrong with this duck?'
