A/N: Sorry that I haven’t uploaded for like 2 week. I guess that the motivation to write wasn’t really there. But I’m back! (hopefully it stays like that T^T). So as an apology I wrote a long chapter. But it was so long that it exceeded the Tapas letter limit! So I sadly have to split it up in two parts. The second part will be out this week so look forward to it!
Astonished was not the word that I would use to describe my feelings now. I felt betrayed, sad, angry and disappointed of the fact that my parents hide something this important from me. The fact that I’m a fairy, okay…I can kind of understand that, but hiding the fact that I’m adopted and that they knew my biological parents that’s something that I can’t understand.
“Why…?” I asked. They looked at me.
My throat felt dry making it hard for me to swallow. My lips were quivering, and I couldn’t stop the tears from falling anymore. I didn’t even care at this point.
Mom reached out to me for a hug, but I pushed her gesture away. I could see her hurt expression from me rejecting her. But I felt to hurt to care.
“Why…did you guys hide this from me?” I looked at them pained.
“Ayako…we didn’t want to hide this from you, but the circumstances made us so that we couldn’t tell you anything until this point.” Dad said as he was trying to comfort my mom.
“I felt like a freaking freak this whole time. I felt like I didn’t belong anywhere. I kept wondering why I was so different from you guys, why I was such a defect person, why I even existed at all…”
“Ayako…” Aiko said. She gave me a look that told me that I wasn’t a defect person.
“So, did my biological parents threw me away?” I asked almost inaudible.
“No!” Mom yelled in tears. She marched towards me and grabbed me by my shoulder shaking me a little bit. “Don’t you ever think that! Your parents were the kindest lovable parents that we ever knew and you…you were their reason to live, their reason to fight. They treasure you so tremendously much. So, don’t you dare to ever say that you hear me young lady?” She looked at me dead in the eyes daring me to refuse her.
I blinked my tears away and nodded slowly. “Then why…?” I could hear my voice croaking. “Why did they give me away?”
Mom slowly slumped down on her knees and gave a deep sigh. She looked at dad contemplating if she should tell me. Dad gave a nod of approval. “she has to know.” He said.
Mom looked at me again. She took my hand in hers and this time I didn’t push her away. She took a deep quivering breath.
“We will tell you as much as we can and what we are about to tell you may change your view about us. You’re maybe even going to hate us after hearing this and that’s what scares us so much, but you still have the right to hear this.” She took another deep breath to calm herself down.
“Ayako, your dad and I were scientist in the past. To be more precise we were a magusologist.”
“A magusologist?” It’s the first time that I’ve ever heard of that term.
“A magusologist is scientist that studies magic.” She explained.
“So…a wizard?” I asked.
Mom gave a sad smile as a response to my question. “That’s where the term came from, yes, however we aren’t a wizard or anything magical. We worked at a facility that was trying to uncover the world of magic. We were trying to understand how magic worked so that we could use it for the sake of humanity.” She grimaces as she said the last sentence. “We created a machine that could detect some powerful wavelengths that would match the same frequency as magic and we would catch the magical creatures that matched those wavelengths.”
“What did you do with the creatures that you caught?” I asked in a low voice scared of the answer that I may going to hear.
“We…we experimented on them. We would experiment on them to see what their limits were, what their weakness were and how powerful they were. The experiments were gruesome and inhuman.”
“And you participated in that? Mom?” I looked at her in disbelieve, but she averted her eyes away from me. “Dad?” I looked at dad who also averted his eyes in shame.
“Your mom and I may not have directly participated in that, but we would stand behind the wall of glass and control the machines that were needed in the experiments. We are just as guilty as we just looked at how they were torturing them.” I could hear it in his voice how disgusted he was by himself.
“We also met your parents there.” Mom said.
“What?” I asked shocked.
“Rumors spread around that fairies were hiding among the humans. The leader caught on to that and started the search in finding those fairies. We don’t know the details of how it happened, but your mom and dad were captured. From what we’ve heard they gave them self-up.”
“Why?”
“We also don’t know the reason why they didn’t fight back as they were really powerful. Something must have happened between the leader and them. They must have a made a deal.”
I still couldn’t wrap my head around all of this. Why didn’t they fight back? It didn’t made any sense at all.
“But one thing was sure” Mom continued. “She was pregnant at that time. Pregnant of you.”
I was stilled. Frozen in shock and at the same time the memories of that dream came flooding back in to my mind. So that meant that the woman that I saw was really my mom and that must mean that I was born at the facility.
“In the months that your parents were at the facility we were able to get a great deal of data. They were all delighted at the facility to know that the power that they were dreaming of having was almost in their arm reach. But your dad and I just knew that this all was wrong. I was assigned of taking care of your mom and dad was assigned to caking care of your dad. In the time that we had spent with them we realized that we were doing so much harm to the magical world and how the power that we were grasping for was something that would destroy us all. So, we decided.” Mom looked back at dad with determination. “We were going to help them escape.”
“But that didn’t happen, did it?” I said looking dejected.
They both shook their head making my heart drop more. “No, the leader had caught on to the plan and separated us from them. However, your mom, she was a strong woman never giving up.” A soft smile appeared on mom’s face at the thought of my mom. “They used the last bit of their power to communicate with us through telepathy.”
“Why was it difficult for them to use their powers in that place?” Aiko asked.
“All magical creatures were forced to wear a chain that nullifies the magical powers. They could only use their powers if they were given permission for it. They were basically puppets.” I could feel mom’s hands gripping onto mine harder.
“We had everything planned out, but in the end we had to cancel the plan, because something happened.”
“What happened?” I asked.
“You happened. You were about to be born and we couldn’t risk endanger you and your mom. But we also knew that they will take you away from them the moment you were born. A newborn fairy which was born between two different powerful creatures there’s no way that the leader would give something priceless as you aw- “
“Wait, hold up.” I stopped my mom in a confused state of mind. ” Between two different creatures? What do you mean aren’t they both fairies?”
“Your mom is a fairy, yes, but your dad…he’s something else. A powerful creature whose name can’t be said.”
I started to feel a little bit dizzy from all this unexpected information and leaned back in to the couch trying to catch my breath.
“Okay, what happened next?”
“Your mom knew that they couldn’t escape from there, so they trusted you over to us. Your mom wanted you to live a normal human life. She already knew what you would be and gave us the bracelet. She told us that you must wear it when you become 16. She told us everything that we had to look out for with you. She even knew your affinity with nature an animals and how it would become stronger and stronger as you age. So, on the day that your mom gave birth to you, your dad used his powers to disguise us as your mom’s personal guard while knocking out the real guards. After your mom gave birth to you safely the leader told us to take you away from your mom not knowing that it was us in disguise.
So, we took you, left or past behind, went into hiding and brought you up as our own.” My mom caressed my tear stained cheek and I could see the motherly love shimmering in her eyes. “We really do love you as our daughter. You are our daughter, and no one can say otherwise. Our love for you grew stronger as days went on like our fear of telling the truth to you one day, scared that you would end up hating us not like we would blame you.”
After saying that the room felt in complete silence, everyone staring at me waiting for my reaction. I thought long and hard about everything. How my biological parents may be still locked up in that horrifying place, how I basically must lead a double life, but one thing is clear as hell…
“Mom, dad.” Upon hearing me calling for them they flinched slightly. “I…I was mad and disappointed at you guys of how you had hide everything from me. I was frustrated and pretty much blinded by anger. The past two days have been super crazy and everything from now on may even going to be more crazy, but I’m not stupid. You tried to help my parents, saved me and gave me a normal life. I know who brought me up and that’s you guys. You are my parents we don’t need to be tied by blood to feel the love that we have between us. Mom’s and dad’s love tied us all together. I love you mom and dad.”
Hearing me say those words made my mom brake down in tears which made me break down in my own tears as I hugged her. Even my dad let some manly tears go. I could hear mom keep saying how sorry she was and how much she loved me as she was hugging me tighter.
After we calmed down mom told me about how in the past they tried to go back to the facility to save my parents, but when they arrived there the place was vacant, suspecting they had moved out to a place more isolating. But they know that my biological parents are still alive because they found Kuro there with a letter from my parents saying that they were alright, and that mom and dad can’t go save them because it was too dangerous.
And that they will always love me…
