Lying in my corner, the sounds of the night along with the addition of snoring only making me restless as I tossed and turned with a whine, I had soon felt my collar begin to vibrate, the feeling very much welcomed.
“Where have you been?” I immediately whispered to my collar.
“I thought you left me behind to fend for myself.” I snickered, a simple hoot coming from the other side before Ibis cleared her throat.
‘That’s partially the reason...’ She admitted.
‘But I was taking care of some things, consider one of those things a reward should you escape if you will.’ She sighed, the word making my tail thump against the ground before I had let out a heavy sigh.
‘What is ever the matter young spirit? Are you not happy about escaping?’ I chuckled.
“Why wouldn’t I be?” I said.
“Y’know I love doin’ the risky and reckless stuff, especially a good escape plan! Just...without other people being involved.” I whined, Ibis going quiet for a moment before she sighed.
‘I will not tell you that no one will be harmed, for people shall be, but...in this life. You must learn to accept that, unlike your world, not everyone will be fine, no matter how many times you try to make sure they are.’ Ibis said, her words making me scoff.
“Now you sound like the half-snake.”
‘The Echidna is wise despite his audacious attitude.’ Ibis hooted.
‘After all, there is a reason he is an advisor to the mate of a Fox.’ I widened my eyes almost immediately.
He didn’t tell me that the King was actually shacking up with the Daemonium!
“The King is in love with a Fox?”
Ibis laughed quietly. ‘Not the common fox as you are thinking of, but indeed, he is mates with a Fox.’ She said.
I was tempted to ask more questions but...at the same time, I didn’t want to. I don’t think it’s good for me to know the inside married life of someone I don’t even know.
“So Daemoniums aren’t evil then?”
‘...Some aren’t, though most hold resentment towards mortals for reasons that I shall not explain.’ She said before my collar slowly ceased to vibrate.
‘Sleep well my champion, escaping from Ursa’s creation is no easy task.’ Ibis said with a distant voice before the collar stopped vibrating completely, leaving me feeling drowsier than I’ve ever been in my life until I finally conked out.
As the night slowly rolled into the next day, the sounds of the birds chirping, Orcs complaining about having a hang-over and Basilisk’s hissing being my alarm bell. I was quick to rise into a sitting position and yawn as the feeling of this day being a good one ruled my thoughts, after all, this was the day everyone would be escaping from these darn Orcs once and for all! And I planned to try and discuss the plan with Basilisk a little bit more before I decided to try and talk to Khaleesi and her people about what I could do to help their escape go even smoother.
“Why so glum Basilisk?” I barked as I trotted up to him, my tongue hanging out of my mouth as I watched him claw at the dirt ground.
“In the early hours of the morning, I overheard the Chieftain talking with his guard about doubling- no...tripling the guard amount.” He hissed violently as he slammed a fist onto the ground.
“Apparently, the gathering we had the night before made too much noise last night.” He said, my happy mood quickly going down the drain as I narrowed my eyes.
“The plan isn’t off right? This shouldn’t stop everyone from escaping.” “And if sure as hell won’t.” He snapped.
“It’s still going on whether there are 10 or 10,000 Orcs present. I want to return home where it’s cool and wet instead of hot and dry...” Basilisk sighed.
“Besides, I already made it clear, if you’re too weak to make it then that’s too bad.” Basilisk said with a smirk as I small sigh escaped from me.
God this half-snake really doesn’t know how to care for others, does he? Always going on about the weak and the strong! It doesn’t and never will make sense to me but, at the same time, there’s probably a lot of people in this world that think just like him, I just need to simply bear with him until I’m able to go home along with my friends and possibly a few new ones.
“I really do hate it when you talk about people as if they’re nothing but game pieces y’ know?” I huffed as I laid down in front of him.
“And I hate when you talk in your sleep.” He said, my cheeks warming up in embarrassment.
“Call me selfish If you damn wish mutt but I don’t care for anyone in this entire camp.” He snarled.
“The only people I care for is myself, my King and everyone else back where I'm from. You all are just mere food sources to me.” He spat out, his tongue flicking out while I just rolled my eyes.
“Whatever, I’d protect everyone before you’d even get the chance,” I said, Basilisk letting out a dark chuckle before the Chieftain suddenly came into the room, causing both of us to immediately go silent.
“Pets, come with me.” He ordered before swiftly walking off, Basilisk and I exchanging confused glances before he followed after him.
As we followed after the Chieftain, the guards looking at us with distasteful glares in their eyes, it wasn’t long before I had suddenly caught the familiar, metallic and salty scent of blood. The smell making my fur stand on end as it was slightly recognizable.
‘Oh my God...Koko!’ I screamed bloody-murder inside my head as my eyes immediately starting to water up as the Chieftain stood beside him.
“You wenches are getting bolder and bolder by the moment aren’t ya...” The Chieftain started; his eyes narrowed dangerously as rage swirled around in them.
“The second we allow male slaves into the camp, all of you suddenly think that it’s okay to form escape plans right?!” He roared as I couldn’t help but flinch in fear.
Please...don’t let him hurt my friend!
“I have decided to make an example out of what will happen if you all continue on with this plan of yours!” The Chieftain shouted before he suddenly kicked Koko closer to Basilisk and me, tears already rushing down my face while Basilisk kept quiet.
“Kill this damn wolf, I don’t give a damn about who it is!” He roared once more as he watched, the slaves around us having shock, fear, anger, and sadness written all over their faces as Koko looked up at me with a sad but accepting expression.
“Non clamor meus Beta...ego sum senior lupus, oportet esse tempus mi.(Do not cry my Beta...I am an older wolf, it must be my time)” Koko said weakly in his native tongue, my tears beginning to fall harder as I slowly shook my head.
“K-Koko...” I whined, Basilisk continuing to be silent as he looked down at Koko.
“I prefer to eat dinner alone.” Basilisk hissed as he finally broke the tense silence, my eyes widening to the point they were the size of the moon as I immediately rushed to stand in Basilisk’s way.
“No! Stay away from him!” I cried out, his hissing getting even more ferocious as he immediately looked at the King.
“Either you move her or you’ll lose a pet.” He snarled as the Chieftain surprisingly complied before a guard pulled me away from Koko’s body.
“Basilisk! Don’t! Please don’t kill Koko!” I cried out as I tried to pull away from the guard, my efforts rendered useless as he continued to pull me away. As I continued to watch, the color draining from my face by the passing moment, it wasn’t long before Basilisk unhinged his mouth, grabbed Koko and slithered away, the tears seeming to burn my skin as I began to howl.
“Damn you Basilisk!” I cried out in pain, the sounds of his distancing hissing before sudden silence making me scream in complete horror.
Damn him...damn all these stupid, fucking Orcs!
I hate them all, I hate them! I lost a friend...I lost someone who was precious and loyal to me, someone who felt that death was meaningless as long as they were still next to me! That...that damn half-snake took my friend away from me...how could he?! It only reconfirms what I was beginning to reconsider and that was that he was only a foul beast who only cared about his own wellbeing and freedom.
“Damn this!” Torin hissed as I laid down next to him, tears running down his cheeks as he tried to hide them behind the back of his arm.
“I can’t believe this...that damn Echidna, next time I see him, I’ll take his fangs for a trophy!” He continued to cry out before I put my head in his lap and whined.
“W-We...”
I let out a heavy sigh, trying to control my own sniffles and tears.
“We can’t kill anyone else, more death won’t do us any good,” I said before I looked around the camp, the mood grimmer and colder as the clouds above started to darken and people continued to be worked to the bare bone.
“She is right everyone,” Khaleesi said. “The Sabre-Wolf's death should not warrant revenge.”
Torin let out a heavy sigh along with a single sniffle before he removed his arm from his face, looking at Khaleesi and then me with a stone-cold glare in his eyes.
“I won’t say you two are right.” He grumbled.
“I just want out of this damn place as soon as possible.” “
Trust me, it’s coming.” I sighed as I looked up at the sky, the smell of the ocean telling me that it just wasn’t going to be raining, it was going to be storming.
“You smell it as well?” One of Khaleesi’s sisters suddenly said out of the blue.
“The storm I mean. It should provide cover for us when we leave.” She said before I simply sighed and let my head fall back onto Torin’s lap, the feeling of his hand scratching behind my ear giving me some sort of comfort.
