That next morning, Albel had bribed the nurse’s well with fresh pastries and coffee in order to visit his best friend before visiting hours technically started. He’d been around long enough to know how to properly bribe them.
When let into the room, he was first met with the bright glare of the early morning sun and a scene he both expected and did not.
Roxas was still fast asleep-head relaxed against the glass of the window. The blond wasn’t a loud snorer, so the only sign of life was the frequent heaving of his chest as he breathed. What he hadn’t planned to see, was the slight outline of a body beside him. One he remembered very strongly. From what Albel could see, Orion’s head had slipped down from where it must have been previously resting against the others arm down towards where his elbow was; his head also faded through the sleeping human's figure.
It may have only been an outline. One that disappeared only moments after as the intensity of the sun's rays to the room increased, but it was a start. It was a sign that proved even more that the ghost really existed.
With a grin, Albel gently closed the door behind himself and made his way closer as to not startle either.
Unfortunately, his attempt to that failed. Awoken by the creaking of the door, Roxas properly lifted himself into a sitting position when their eyes met again.
“Damn, sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you.” Albel apologized just before making his way over with a bag filled with a couple pastries meant to serve as the patients breakfast.
“Now, if I didn’t know any better you just want to fatten me up with all this.” He joked while giving one glance towards the resting ghost before reaching in and pulling out a strawberry muffin to nibble on.
Settling into the free chair, Albel brought it close to the window and chuckled. “With how little you eat, it would be amazing if you could actually put on weight.” Once finished joking, he turned his gaze towards where previously he had seen Orion.
Roxas too, slide his gaze over to the sleeping form seen clearly through his own eyes. "You know, I have a theory. Some myths say when nearing death, you become able to see ghosts. I wonder if that is why I can see him. Although I wonder how long he must have been waiting for a chance like this." His fingers made an attempt to push aside some misplaced locks of hair. Only an attempt for his fingers went through.
"Roxas." Albel perked up from where he sat. "How much longer do they think you have?" Such was an attempt to steer the conversation in a slightly different direction.
"Mmm…" He leaned back against the window, arms crossed and pondered. "Perhaps anywhere between now and the end of this year? Is my best guess. Who really knows at this point." For the next moment nothing but the nervous crinkling of the paper bag was heard until Roxas decided to bring the conversation back to another topic.
"Hey Albel. What if I said I wanted him for myself? To take him with me into the afterlife, or to drag this pure being down where I belong?" This was only half meant in seriousness.
The brunet rested both his elbows on his knees, then the back of his hands to his chin as he leaned in. "I would never let you. Roxas, I know how you've been lately. You might have figured I'd let it slide, or ignore but I haven't. No, I know you think this. We've known each other since we were young. Of course you share the same interests as me. And my interest lies in him. Does he know?"
Roxas nodded. "I...confessed in a way last night. Don't worry, he didn't know how to take it. Naive guy, isn't he? Why, if he were still alive, I would have jumped him." More attempts at a bad joke. "I think I know what chains him here too. But! I'll leave that for him to explain."
"How will all this-" Albel pointed towards each of them before continuing. "-Work exactly?"
"Who knows. Perhaps we each take a crack at wooing him, and we see where it goes from there." Though this was said, Roxas knew exactly what his end goal was.
To get both closer before his last day.
