The next morning at school Bex was the first to arrive at her usual table. She had gotten there 30 minutes before she usually did. Everything was off, she couldn’t pretend otherwise. All night she was hit with Lyssa’s emotions. Fear, anger, resentment, confusion, sadness, desire. The list went on. Bex just felt like a very big blah.
Her eyes were wide and blank as she stared off into nothingness trying her hardest not to feel anything. She wanted to clear her head to be able to separate what was hers and what was Lyssa’s. The task proved to be impossible.
“Hey.” Darci sat in front of her.
Bex just stared off into the void of space. Her face blank, her eyes blank, just a blah.
“Bex?” She said in confusion.
Bex forced herself to meet Darci’s gaze and smile. The smile came off as creepy and strange. Darci made a face.
“Wow look who’s early today.” Mike sat at the table.
“Hey,” Bex said but it sounded distant and off.
Mike gave Darci a weird look, she mirrored the look.
“Hey, you’re here early.” Joan joined the table.
“She acting like a freak,” Mike whispered but Bex still heard him.
Yet she couldn’t bring herself to care. She just felt too much. Too much of everything. This was way more of Lyssa then she ever wanted to know. She wanted out of the blood bond right then and there.
“You okay?” Joan asked her.
“Yeah.” She lies her eyes still staring off blankly.
“Bex.” Joan grabbed her by the chin and forced her to meet her gaze.
Almost as if Lyssa knew Bex was talking to Joan, Bex could feel her anger, her frustration, her annoyance. A hint of jealousy. Her eye twitched.
“Let’s talk.” Joan grabbed Bex out of her seat and dragged her away from the group.
“She’s coming,” Bex said to no one in particular. It was just a fact.
One too many facts that had bubbled up that she would rather get out then leave in. Lyssa was coming, she could feel it.
“What is up with you? Did she do something to you?” Joan whispered as she pulled her aside by the school entrance.
Bex opened her mouth to deny and pretend she was okay but then Lyssa walked up the steps. Their eyes met. Bex felt her face flush as she recalled Lyssa’s lips on her skin, the euphoric heaven they were in, the line that was crossed.
Her and Lyssa quickly looked away from one another and Lyssa walked in without so much as a hello. Bex could instantly feel her confusion, her annoyance, her anger. It clouded her own emotions of embarrassment and whatever else it was called when you accidentally had sex with your vampire.
“What was that about?” Joan asked.
“Uh, nothing. Nothing happened, I mean she didn’t do me, something to me! I uh, I got to go.” Bex quickly ran away from Joan and into the building.
Bex’s heart raced as she remembered Lyssa moaning her name, the way she licked her skin. To her ever-growing horror, she could feel Lyssa’s sudden desire as well. She swallowed down her emotions and focused on being a blah. Walking off early to her first class before the bell even rung.
Throughout the day she could feel Lyssa. Lyssa’s boredom, Lyssa’s annoyance, Lyssa’s curiosity. The more the day went on the easier it became to distinguish what was what.
During lunch the two ran into each other, as much as they tried to avoid it, it was inevitable. They stood there awkwardly for a moment, neither saying anything. Bex swallowed knowing she was going to have to be the one to say something, as she could feel Lyssa nowhere close to a resolution.
“Hey.” She said nervously.
“Hello.”
“Nice day isn’t it?”
“Yeah, I guess so,” Lyssa said in her fake American accent.
“Right… Yeah…” Bex turned on heel and quickly walked off.
She could feel Lyssa’s sting of rejection. Lyssa’s anger and annoyance. Lyssa’s confusion and heartache. So many things she wished she couldn’t feel. Lyssa in return could feel how uncomfortable Bex was. She was practically drowning in Bex’s confusion and denial. But she could also feel something else, something both girls secretly wanted, more.
“What was that!? I could see the awkward.” Mike commented to Bex as she walked up to the table.
“Seriously, need a knife for that tension?” Jaden joked.
“Hehe.” Bex forced nervous laughter.
“Hey what’s up? You’ve been weird all day.” Mike pushed.
“No, it’s just natural.” Bex talked nonsense as she looked down at the table.
Darci raised an eyebrow at Joan who shrugged in response.
“Did something happen between you two? Did you kiss?” Mike teased.
Bex’s red face told them all they needed to know.
“Oh my god, you did!” Darci gasped in shock.
“What!?” Joan could do nothing to hide her anger and jealousy.
“I uh… get food.” Bex got up and quickly retreated.
Joan followed after her.
“You two kissed!” Joan grabbed Bex by the arm preventing her from running off.
Bex was once again brought back to the animalistic love scene. The way Lyssa ripped off her clothes, her cold hands on her warm skin.
“Come here.” Bex grabbed Joan and dragged her away into the girl’s bathroom.
“Did you two kiss!?” Joan demanded.
Bex looked around the restroom before dragging Joan into a stall. Then she leaned into her ear and whispered,
“We had sex.”
Joan’s eyes went big and her jaw dropped in shock.
“It was an accident. Totally not planned and so weird.” Bex ran her hands down her red face.
“How do you accidentally—”
“Shh!” Bex cut her off. “It was the stupid blood bond. It sort of got stronger right as she drank some of my blood. One thing led to another and yeah.”
“Oh my god,” Joan said in horror.
“I know! I wasn’t ready for that, or any of it!” Bex had tears in her eyes.
“Shh, I got you.” Joan embraced her.
“What do I do!? I mean we were barely becoming friends. That went from a zero to a ten way too fast!” Bex panicked.
“She shouldn’t have taken advantage of you like that, I swear I will kill her.”
“She couldn’t control herself, I couldn’t control myself. It was just so overwhelming, so much.” Bex pulled back to look Joan in the face.
“What are you saying?”
“I am saying that at the time I wanted it. I practically begged her for more! That’s so embarrassing!” Bex ran her hands down her face again.
“Well haven’t you guys talked about it?”
“No! I got out of there as soon as I realized what the heck just happened. Now I can feel all her emotions and crap, it’s too much. I want out!”
“Well, maybe I can help I can—”
“She’s coming!” Bex hissed.
“Rebecca!” Lyssa walked in.
“Go away!” Joan called.
Lyssa walked over to the last stall and tried to open the door. It was locked.
“Open the door, Rebecca,” Lyssa demanded.
Bex slowly moved and opened the door. Joan was guarding over Bex. Lyssa glared at her. Bex could feel her jealousy, her rage and annoyance. What scared her the most was that she could feel how much Lyssa wanted to kill Joan.
“Rebecca we need to talk,” Lyssa said.
“I don’t know what to say. That was, and we, and you…” Bex stammered.
“Can you give us a moment?” Lyssa shot at Joan.
“Not a chance.” Joan sneered.
“Fine, then I shall take Rebecca elsewhere.”
“She’s not your pet.” Joan hissed.
“So you put that idea in her head.” Lyssa took an intimidating step towards Joan.
“Lyssa stop.” Bex stepped forward.
“I just want to know why you are acting like this. Yes, last night was, unplanned to say the least, but was it not good? Do you not want to be my friend anymore?”
Bex could feel the fear and uncertainty from Lyssa.
“She doesn’t want anything to do with you! Now get out of here before I slay you.” Joan hissed.
“I’d like to see you try.” Lyssa took another step towards her.
“Lyssa stop! It’s not that I don’t want to be your friend, I just need space. That escalated way too quickly and I was not ready for that. Not even close. I just need space, please.”
“Oh, I see.”
“Lyssa last night was, was, too much. I mean way too much. Please just give me space to think about this.”
“Very well then. If that is what you wish.” Lyssa turned to leave.
Bex could feel her despair, her rejection, her sadness. She felt Lyssa’s humiliation and regret. The feelings were so strong it blocked her from truly feeling her own emotions. Still, Bex did not call her back, or even watch her leave. She turned her head away and looked to the ground until she could feel that Lyssa was gone.
“Help me break the blood bond,” Bex said to Joan as soon as they were alone again.
“Are you sure? It will be painful, for both parties.”
“Yes. I can’t, I can’t do this. This is just whoa, you know? Too much. I feel like I am being smothered by a giant Lyssa sandwich and there is nothing I can do about it. Please, you have to help me.” She begged.
“Okay, but I’ll need a day or two to get the stuff ready. You think you can wait that long?”
“Yes.” She nodded, not that she had a choice.
With that Bex and Joan joined the others at the table.
The day went on much to Bex’s dismay. She just needed a moment to take it all in, a real moment to herself without Lyssa’s emotions in her head. No such moment came. After band practice, she walked home.
When she got home she took a shower and went to her room. Needed to focus on anything but Lyssa she cleaned her room. Much to the shock of everyone in the house. They all knew the Bex never cleaned her room, no matter how much her mother begged her to. Bex found comfort in the disorganization, there was a system to her madness. Or at least she used to think so.
Now all she wanted was some semblance of control on her life. It was all just too much too quickly. First the vampire, then the near death, twice, then the friendship and the cuddling all the way to sex. Well, it technically wasn’t sex, sex but Bex thought it counted none the less considering how erotic and wild it was. How the two were almost completely nude.
Oh yeah, it definitely still counted.
“Feeling okay my love?” Her mom poked her head in.
“Yeah, is there anything in the washer?” Bex picked up her dirty clothes off the floor.
“Not that I am aware…” her mom eyed her.
“Great.” Bex pushed past her and carried the clothes to the laundry room.
“Mom she scaring me.” Abby shuddered.
“You and me both kid.” They watched after Bex as if she had grown a second head.
Once Bex was done cleaning and putting her room in order she did her homework. When she was done with that she put new sheets on her bed, and when she was done with that she practiced her oboe. Anything to keep her mind off of Lyssa.
