Instead of sticking around in the hallway, we went to one of the abandoned music rooms. I set the rubber duck on the floor and we all sat down around it, Indian style.
"Okay, There is something wrong with it," Lucas stated inching away from it nervously.
I rolled my eyes," That's obvious! The thing we need to worry about is why Mr. Channing has this thing."
Collin stared distrustfully at the duck, "Hey, this reminds me of when we were younger. "
I tilted my head, "What are talking about?"
"When we were kids I remember you, Tay, got extremely sick and your mom whispered under her breath, ' It's starting,'" He explained looking at us.
Lucas raised his eyebrow,"' Starting?'"
I shrugged my shoulders, "Like I would know. That was the week where I was so sick that I couldn't move without feeling a stabbing pain."
We all simultaneously looked back at the duck. It squeaked as if uncomfortable. Wait, squeaked?
I watched the duck in disbelief waiting for another sign. That same connection I had felt moments ago came back as I reached out the duck.
"Leonardo," I whispered, "are you pink."
I felt a small pinch in my hand. The duck's beak turned a bright hot pink for a few seconds. Collin's head whipped towards me.
"Dude, what did you say?" He asked and I didn't answer coughing into my hand.
"What are you talking about?" I wheezed while trying to catch myself. It felt like just those two words had taken away my breath.
"You were talking in another language or something," He exclaimed with a grin.
"Seriously?" I inquired skeptically.
Lucas nodded with a look of amazement, his honey brown glistening in delight, "It was...magical."
Magic.
Just thinking about the word made me shiver. What did that word mean to me? It felt important but certainly, it couldn't be that important because I couldn't remember. I bit my bottom lip impatiently. This gigantic puzzle was missing more than a few pieces.
"Dude, should we call your mom?" Collin asked and we looked at him.
"Oh yeah! Let's call my mom of all people, "Oh, hey mom! Just wanted to tell that I might be speaking in another language without knowing it so I might be a wizard. Bye!" I snapped my voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Okay!" Collin exclaimed with a mischievous grin and my eyes widened.
"Wait, no!" I shouted reaching for Collin's phone but I was pulled back by Lucas. I looked at the browned hair boy but he only shushed me.
"Hey, Mrs. Thompson," Collin said and I was about to shout but Lucas squeezed my shoulder as a small warning.
"Well, you see.." At this point, I blocked out Collin's word knowing how long this conversation was going to take. I dozed off thinking out a certain teacher.
Mr. Davis, of course!
'Is he having a good time right now?' I wondered biting my lip. Mr. Davis' daughter lived in Chicago which was pretty far away from our town.
"Thank you. Goodbye," Collin finished finally.
"So?" I questioned curiously.
"She says you are entering the first stage of becoming a sorcerer. She wants you to know that it's completely normal in your family and that she'll explain more when you get home, " He said simply.
I gaped at him like a fish out of water.
"I'm a wizard!"
