Artist note: Hello guys! First and foremost I just want to say thank you for keeping updated with my story!
I know I only have the prologue pages uploaded here so far but please bear with me! I have more excited stuff to show you soon and I'm hoping to set up a good schedule to submit a chapter every week.
In the mean time here is a bonus page to help you understand a bit more of the lore in my story...
𝐒𝐨, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐧𝐬?
In both my prologues you read the term chromatoon thrown here and there. Well to start you off, chromatoons are an intelligent anthropomorphic eldritch specie that exist in my Paradoxum Tricker story. They are sentient just like humans, interacting and living the same way as humans! They are noticeable for their unique color scheme and distinctive appearance. You can distinguish them from other features, such as their "pie-cut" or as I would like to call it "pac-man" style iris, and having only 4-digit hands and feet instead of 5-digit like humans. They are built the same way as humans (bones, metabolism and all) but just a tad bit different also.
There are four categories of chromatoons that exist.
• Chromas: Are regular or "basic" chromatoon species. They don't carry any unique traits other than their lack of external parts in appearance (like quadrangular cartilage and external ear flags). They do still have ear canals and nostrils, just not visible. Chromas also have sexual dimorphism, meaning males will have facial and body markings, whereas females only have facial markings.
• Hominine: These are the most human-looking chromatoon species. They are like chromas but have external conspicous ears and alar cartilage like humans. They can be mistaken as humans sometimes.
• Fauna: These chromatoons are the closest thing resembling to "anthros" from a human perspective. There are only three types of faunas that exist though: fur (hair), amphibian (skin, scales), and avian (feathers).
• Bionic: They are considered the more "advanced" form of the chromatoon specie. They are also the most intelligent! A lot of technological enhancements were made possible thanks to these chromatoon types, since their bodies and anatomy were used as a map to create AIs and androids. They are almost like walking, breathing computers and like chromas, bionic chromatoons also have some sexual dimorphism. If you take off the hair and clothes you'll notice some difference. Males will usually have their bodies (legs and arms) covered while females only have their arms and feet covered.
Now that you get an idea of what chromatoons are, you also came across the word tricker. Tricker derives from the term trickster and by definition it could mean fraud, to deceive, or fake.
The term tricker in this story is used to describe the true eldritch abomination forms of chromatoons. There are two types of trickers that exist.
Rougers (red trickers) are the most common chromatoons to have gone rouge. Rougers are chromatoons that slowly evolve into eerie and dangerous entities. Not only are they notable for their dark monstrous form, but also for their piercing red eyes. Almost every chromatoon that has turned into a rouger has gone through the complete transformation, sometimes not permanently staying in their monstrous form either; meaning at will they can turn back into their former selves (think of it as shape-shifting). Rougers (if dangerous) can be extremely deceitful since their physiology changes and they can come off as aggressive, physically powerful, and problematic. That being said, not all chromatoons turn into rougers, and not all rougers are dangerous. Some rougers remain self-aware and can still be an ally.
Ceruleans (blue trickers) are extremely rare and go through the same biological change as rougers but rather than turning into eldritch monsters they develop to appear more elegant and less barbaric. Some gain a higher consciousness, better intelligence, health, and strength than the average chromatoon or human; making them appear more alien and enigmatic. One prominent trait that ceruleans have is their icey blue eyes. Ceruleans so far are only a speculation in the story. I won't get too much into details but lets just say that there may have been the “one” cerulean that might have triggered the uncanny biological change chromatoons are experiencing o̶r̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶.
I hope this is helpful, and stay tune for chapter 1!
