Let’s try this again shall we? Author: It’s info-dump time.
Far, far away under the Earth and below the molten core, there sat a demonic kingdom. This kingdom was divided into four distinct clans, all of which were governed by a sole ruler.
Those clans unfortunately disagreed every now and then, especially when the time came to choose a new ruler to govern them all.
Out of the four clans, only the strongest and most populated few may showcase their tribe leaders—or royals—to run as the prime ruler.
It was the duty of the prime ruler to keep the peace, no matter what. So the surface dwellers—AKA the humans—must never learn of their existence.
This was all to ensure safety. If the revelation were to ever arise, one can only imagine the total pandemonium that will occur.
For example, demons being hunted by humans, humans being hunted by demons, etcetera etcetera.
So far, the only successful humans to discover this hell-like existence were a few occultists. Their satanic rituals posed a new millennium in contacting the divine.
However, anything recorded by these pesky beings was destroyed by the emperor himself.
The emperor at the time, Titus I, sent out various spies disguised as land dwellers to seek out occult books. Searching high and low, their job was to destroy everything that posed as a threat. They even went as far as to burn down sacrificial idols bearing his image.
No crook or cranny of the upper-world was left untouched; if the small statues did not look remotely like him, he could not risk being discovered by humans, and had them removed at once.
Since time worked differently between the two worlds, and since the Earth was still in its primitive state of the Dark Ages, the spread of Titus I’s demonic presence ended abruptly after the massacre of his idols, also known as the Pillage of Titans.
Titus I’s home clan, the Titans (as one could infer), was the ring bearer of the entire operation.
“As we have learned in our last lesson, during the human’s Dark Ages, which was also our Light Ages, the Titans were a powerful and domineering clan.
Not only did they follow Titus I’s every whim in the Pillage of Titans, but they grew in social class and sported high ranking titles. It’s hard to imagine that these demons soon fell from grace a few decades later.
Can anyone guess the cause?”
In the dimly lit library, only one demon rose his hand in the air immediately. His figure was smaller than his other classmates, who happened to also be his siblings, so he was sitting on two thick volumes on top of his chair.
His face was brighter than the rest of the class, for he was the only one who knew the correct answer. He pleaded with his eyes at his tutor to choose him.
Since no one else in the room was as invested into the lesson as the youngest crown prince was, the tutor sighed and pointed his finger at the eager pupil’s direction.
Under the candlelight, the small demon tried to rise out of his supported chair and looked to the class of six with a steady determination.
His voice echoed slightly around the bookcases surrounding them.
“Thank you, sir. The Titans were a bountiful clan, but because of their pride and arrogance, they soon spent themselves silly.
Their luxurious balls and multiple pointless crusades on behalf of Titus I became wasteful spending, causing them to lose power.”
Beaming with happiness, the youngest demon prince plucked himself back into his chair and scooted it forward.
“Brainiac,” said one of his siblings across the room, and the rest of the students snickered.
“Hmm.” The tutor hummed his satisfaction, ignoring the ill-tempered remark. He’ll have a chat with them later about class etiquette.
“You are correct Mara,” he said with praise at the beaming face of his most prized student.
He looked around at the rest of the class, their eyes slowly drooping from boredom. They’ve never been the bunch to appreciate his lessons, nor have they ever put as much effort into their work as he had hoped they would.
The tutor sighed again; all this sighing became a habit.
The only student to ever seem remotely interested in demonic history was, of course, Mara.
As an imperial tutor to the crown princes and princesses, he knew he should not play favorites, for they were all vying to be the next prime ruler. Yet, he still had a little more favor for his most “willing” student.
For the rest of his students, they did not see the importance of being cooped up in a dusty library for a majority of the day learning about things they felt weren’t relevant to them.
However, they forgot that learning the foundation of their home and the past rulers’ accomplishments was important to their decision making as future potential rulers.
Or so the tutor quietly argued in his mind as he waits for the shadow on the lunar-dial to hit midnight.
Once the figurative school bell rang (they didn’t really have one, just a phrase) the rest of the royal party, excluding Mara, rushed the hell out of the library and went their separate ways.
The tutor, who had watched them run away frantically as if their skirts had caught fire, turned to Mara, who was slowly getting out of his chair and gathering his belongings.
“You read ahead didn’t you?” He questioned.
Meekly the crown prince blushed and looked down.
“Well, uh… I don’t really have anything else to do so I just read. You know me Professor Bune.”
Professor Bune just sighed. “Mara, look at me. You are one of my most prized pupils…”
The little demon interjected, “Oh, uh, thank you.”
“But,” the tutor continued, “you have to let your other siblings get a chance for once. If they never find the answers themselves, how will they ever be taught?”
Mara sluggishly nodded his head in understanding, but didn’t say anything further.
Seeing that the crown prince was not totally adhering to his words due to his silent response, Professor Bune just sighed in defeat once again.
It seriously was a habit, he should stop.
“Don’t think too much about it then. Go,” Bune smiled and nodded towards the door, “enjoy the rest of your night.”
The small demon nodded his head a little too vigorously, collected his books in his hands, and slithered out hurriedly.
