He breathed in. "I've never known my parents to begin with. I've never seen them. I was raised as an orphan with by brother and my two cousins. The hospitality of the orphanage wasn't bad, it was the other kids there. They really didn't like me. I wasn't exactly beaten up for no reason, but I have suspicion that because there wasn't enough room when I arrived, a portion of us had to sleep on the floor. I think that when I got there, I screwed everyone up and that's why they got so upset at me. They called me names, they put me down, they made me feel like I was a mistake... however, I don't let other people's negative influences affect me."
"Then why do you keep putting yourself down?"
"What?"
"You seem to do that a lot with your family. You keep saying things like, 'I'm not that important, don't worry about me,' or 'sorry if I'm annoying you.' It seems like you have a low self-esteem. Are you grateful for the life you have been given?"
"Of course I am."
"Do you often wish you didn't exist in the first place?"
Audiney sat back, looking down at his kneecaps. He knew the truth.
"Sometimes," he answered hoarsely.
"You feel irrational... sometimes?"
"Yes... it's a teenager thing? I don't know. I'm still young, I can figure it out."
"Your brother seems to lift you up a lot. Your mindset and his are very different in terms of self-esteem. Your brother is rather proud, and you are the opposite of him. Don't see that as a bad thing, you just need to imagine the positive, such as when we're done for good, you get to leave."
"I guess."
