What is the origin of the word Excélsior?
As Stan recounted in 2010, in the 1960s he wrote a column in his comics called Stan's Soapbox on the newsletter page.
There he finished his texts with different phrases such as "Until next time, gang, hang loose!" (Until the next one, band, relax!).
However, many authors began copying his sentence, so Stan Lee wanted to search for a word that no one could understand. So you created "Excelsior".
The word was taken from a phrase from the coat of arms of the state of New York, an English expression meaning "Upward and Onward to Greater Glory!"
