Dear Diary,
So yesterday did not go quite as I might have intended. I had assumed correctly that out of those who would turn up in response to our message that a good percentage would be there for reasons other than to assist. I did not think however that we would have so few join us and that such a large percentage of those would be unhelpful. I think this may partially be down to the fact I was basing a lot of my calculations on a life lived in a highly populated city. Putting that kind of calculation into a rural population that does not even come close to matching half the size and over an area that is much larger in scale you will find less willing to travel the distance.
Out of the twelve people who attended our meeting only three seem viable. Firstly Brandon is possibly our most helpful member. He is a local who lives in the village just two over from Freya and has good knowledge of the history of the local area that even surpasses Freya’s in some cases. He is also a Necromancer meaning he may be able to track more magical/ ritual signs in the surrounding area that I would find harder to pin point.
G is also an interesting character. Possibly a bit flaky. They say that they travel the world assisting people to earn a place to sleep. I cannot quite picture living such a chaotic lifestyle as it makes my whole body crawl. I mean think of all the terrible things that have a higher chance of happening if you rely solely on the kindness of strangers. It boggles my mind, but it also gives me a little hope that G could provide a different perspective to the hunt. Extra perspectives can be incredibly useful for creating new leads especially when a case becomes less fresh.
Now Blue. I am a bit worried about Blue. G is a risk because they might disappear part way through out of boredom whereas I do not believe Blue will disappear. I think Blue may get into a fight or some other destructive activity that will cause issues for us all. I know that I am not the most open with my emotions. I also know this can be my downfall at times, but I am overwhelmed with how brazenly Blue shows theirs. And worse than that how obvious it is that they are absolutely drowning in some unresolved rage. I saw them move to intervene when Jason made an unsavoury pass. I could see their fists balling up and their shoulders tightening as they moved forward. It was a relief when Freya dealt with the unwarranted attention first.
Yes Freya did physically force him out. Yet there is something natural, almost calming in the way that she did it. Like a Mother breaking up a fight between siblings. I could tell that with Blue it would have ended a lot bloodier and a lot less calmly.
Still this is the team we are working with. And in the case of Blue and G the team we are living in the same house with.
I really am unsure what I have gotten myself into here.
Yours Faithfully,
Rei Farrell
