What I wanted was to be sociable and graduate from that school. No more nor less. The disappointment in Jenny's eyes was remarkable. Sitting in one of the chairs outside the principal's office isn't a pleasant thing, but you can say that I dragged my ass here. This is what happened:
~~~ During the chemistry period, I teamed up with Kristina, the principal's "beloved" daughter. She really owns that place. It was private, so why not. She would make people to errand things for her, and no one could say 'no' to "her majesty".
Anyway... the lesson was about the safety and use of lad equipment. Due to personal reasons, our teacher didn't come, instead, they sent a subtitle teacher, who looked like he couldn't identify anything from the periodic table. The bell rang. Everyone was silent. I had my goggles on and the safety gloves. Kristina was taking a selfie. Posting hashtag #madscientist. I agree with the 'mad' part.
"Are you going to help me?" I asked.
"No," she said. “My hands are only used to hold my phones and black credit cards. Other things are for the servants.”
"Suit yourself."
The following thing was me using the Bunsen lamp and then burn a little round white cloth, which fell on her skirt, which got burnt.
"Kristina", I tried to warn her, "your skirt..."
"It's new," she said without looking, tapping in her phone.
"Look!" I warm her again. "It's on fire."
"Ah!" She screamed. Other students got alarmed. The subtitle teacher was like 'what's happening'. A curvy young girl with a skirt on fire. No biggie... really...
She was on freaking fire, man. The only chance stood on the fire extinguisher, which was hung on the wall. I use it on her. White fluffy cotton-like foam spread around, ruining her clothes and her hair. Some guys found it funny. The school's photographer found a perfect picture for the yearbook. Kristina looked at me like she was going through a mental break-down. 'Happiness' wasn't the word to describe her reaction. Nor "angry". She was furious.
"You... you... you freak!"
Pretty harsh, if you ask me. ~~~
Therefore, this is practically what happened. Was it right? No. Was it fun? In a way. As might be expected, the principal didn't find it funny, and they decided to kick me out, even though I am not a problem child. My parents paid for the trouble and Kristina's new skirt. Admirably, it was the first trouble in a while, so no biggie. My parents could take it from my allowance if they decide to give me it after that. Actually, they are my foster parents. They are refined people, but they think that everything goes easily with money. However, I hate when I cause problems for them. Last time I almost drown our neighbors' son in the pool. He was bulling a cat, so it was his fault. I volunteer at Mama Goose Animal Shelter, and I vowed to protect our furry friends. My therapist said that interaction with animals was an effective way to relieve stress.
"Aida," Jenny looked up at me. "It's time to go."
Silence accompanies us all the way home. A big three-story house with a pool in the backyard. The corners of the walls are paved with white imported tiles. House sweet house. I don't feel like calling it "home."
"Aida," John called, "We have something important to say."
"Okay, what is it?" I got curious.
"Jenny and I decided... we are going to move out to York City."
"What?" I was shocked. "When?"
"Next Sunday," Jenny answered. "So, you will have a lot of time saying 'goodbye' to your friends."
"That's plenty of time," I thought, rolling my eyes, killing those creatures in front of me, in my mind.
"Cool with me," I nodded. "I must not forget to say farewell to Elizabeth and the volunteers of the animal shelter, too."
"You're not going to eat anything?" Jenny asked.
"No. I must maintain my mind clear," I answered grimly and climbed the stairs.
"Who's Elizabeth?" John whispered to Jenny, surprised I had a friend.
"My therapist," I screamed from the stairs of the second story. "Seriously, you're paying her."
The next day I told my friends at Mama Goose about my parting. They whined about being sad. I would miss those guys, a lot. The departure from my friends in the MGAS was celebrated in a very traditional way. With flour and eggs. They even baked a cake with an adorable dog on it. My spirit animal according to some quizzes in some magazines.
"I will always remember you, my friends," I promised I do. "We will miss you," Marie-Anne hugged me.
"Thank you and don't forget..."
"We promise we won't follow you. What happened in Blake City stays at Blake City. Damn!"
The departure from Elizabeth wasn't that hard. She has been a lot of help. Elizabeth glared at me. " So, Aida, you're leaving."
"Yes," I sighed.
"But you don't sound satisfied", she came in a conclusion.
"Is it too obvious?" I asked.
"You have started to express yourself freely, just after a few sessions, and don't forget I am an expert."
"I know Elizabeth, but I am not here for another session," I assured her.
She glared at me. "Then why?"
"I want to thank you," I declared. "For everything. Your help. Your support. I appreciate it."
"With pleasure," she murmured. "I guess this is goodbye. "
I get up from my chair.
"Pay me a visit when you decide that cutting ties with people you leave isn't always an option and tell me the reason."
"Don't you think some things should end?" I turned my head.
"And you think this is an end?" she chuckled.
"If it's happy, it is an end," I spoke philosophy.
"I will miss you kid."
"Nah! You will get over it," I claimed, but I couldn't say it to myself too. If you fake it, you will eventually believe it.
Sunday! I have all my time to set the things up. We are leaving, but not without seeing the most beautiful thing they did for me.
I told her not to be there when I will leave. She kept her wor, but at the same time, she didn't. Big banners with my name were there to greet me. Bye, guys!
"Aida, are you crying?"
