When Lila finally arrived at work she was so late she felt like half the day was gone already. Like an hour off schedule. The coffee line had added another 20 minutes to her tardiness. Worried she parked her car kindly waving to the receptionist at the desk. Carrying her coffee cups she pressed the button on the elevator for the top floor with her elbow. She waited anxiously as the elevator went up all 30 floors. Summoning her courage she plastered a professional smile on her face and exited the elevator. Walking over to her desk she set down the coffee cups and her brief case. She grabbed her boss's coffee and briskly knocked then entered his office. For the first time she saw her new boss.
She had taken this promotion, because it meant she could escape the drama that had happened in her life recently. Her old boss, Vivian, had loved her work ethic and hated to see her go but they had a close relationship and Vivian understood what her friend needed. Viv had personally recommended Lila to this new employer, Mr. Keliel. Lila quickly applied and was accepted without even an interview for show, but then again according to her research she knew that Mr. Keliel was a demanding man. His word was absolute. Mr. Keliel was the owner and creater of a up and coming software business, Pro-tech. Pro-tech was a company that made software to clean up someone's digital footprint as well as keep their personal information protected from distribution.
This business was a fairly new one, but it was booming just the same. People have become aware of their digital footprint and the fact that companies sell their information to a third party was an issue for acquiring jobs and when applying for colleges. People were ready to pay anything for the services provided by companies like Pro-tech. Lucky for Mr.Keliel Pro-tech was the first and now is the best known in this industry. She wondered if he would be maticulious in reaserching her background and digital foot print as well?
Opening the office door she paused for s moment taken aback at the sight in front of her.
The young Mr.Keliel was unconscious sprawled across his desk! Papers were scattered across the floor and strewn haphazardly on the walls and the desk on which his head rested so peacefully. Lila tiptoed across the room and placed the coffee on his desk and admired his face for only a moment. His dark hair fell just over his eyes and his narrow shoulders slumped awkwardly with an arm supporting his head and resting on the desk. His suit jacket was hung behind him and his shirt was untidy at the moment but he was still appeared professional. His brows were furrowed in his sleep as if he still had stresses even in his deepest dreams.
After snapping herself out of her admiring stare she began gathering the papers that were hung, strung, and flung about the room. After gathering and tidying a few in her hands she noticed a name in the upper left hand corner of one... It was her name! Lila Y. Peaks. She glanced up to see Mr.keliel was still asleep before continuing reading. It was her application form... with notes on it? She saw that the little scribbles pointed to parts of her resume and there were little side notes from her letter of recommendation. That letter must have been from Vivian.
Frowning she read the notes he had made. "Strong work ethic-LOR"
*Circled* "I have always been told by my past employers that I had good people skills"
"Attractive smile, good at greeting important people as well as providing efficiency in the office."-LOR
How could Vivian say all this? Suddenly she realized she needed to get her life together and go back to her old organized and efficient self again. She continued gathering the papers as she got up off the floor to start on the walls and chairs in the room she glanced at the desk. She froze as she realized he was staring at her. Clearing her throat and standing properly as she pulled down her skirt she greeted him,
"Good morning Mr.Keliel." Squinting he lifted his head to look out the window at the shining sun.
"Well... good morning Ms.Peaks. I see you brought me coffee." He responded his voice rougher than his usual smooth, deep tones. He stood and took the coffee walking to the window to sip it leisurely. Lila quickly and quietly as possible (yet it still felt impossibly loud) gathered the messy papers on his desk and piled them as well as the ones she had already gathered. She quickly gathered the last couple of papers she had missed and the patiently stood near his desk awaiting orders.
He turned around his clouded hazel eyes with flecks of gold staring her down and chastised,
"Now that you're finished with cleaning that I've got some real work for you to do."
