The Girl with Hellfire Eyes

The Girl with Hellfire Eyes

Jul 04, 2019

Her breath was deep and ragged. Her heart raced, her pulse thumping along her neck. The girl with the eyes of hellfire gripped the porcelain white sink. She looked up at the cracked mirror and a horrific grin spreads across her busted pink lips. Those eyes slid past her own reflection, past the reflections of the bodies that were laid out around her. The girl was covered in their blood, bits of their flesh clung to her body as she panted. She was high on adrenaline.

The person her eyes locked on was a man. No, he wasn’t a man at all-even if he looked like one. This was something not human. Something the girl was supposed to fear, but in that moment she felt nothing but the rush and thrill of the hunt. Her tongue ran along her bottom lip as she turned towards the man. His eyes were the color of the sun and his hair was the blackened night. His skin was dusk itself and every inch of him was perfect. The girl knew that heavenly body of his very well.

The man clapped his hands, flashing the girl his perfect white teeth. “My, do you look good covered in blood.” The girl blinked slowly as she took shallow breaths. She leaned against the sink and rolled her head to the side as she gazed at the man before her eyes looked at the beautiful scene she’d just created. “Why are you here Corrden?” Her eyes went back to the man. The man named Corrden simply shrugged and stuck his hands into his pockets. He pulled away from the wall he was leaning against and strode over to her.

“Not very classy,” he mused as his sun-kissed eyes roamed over every body he passed, “attacking a woman in the bathroom.” The girl rolled her eyes and folded her arms under her breasts. “Well,” she started as the man neared, “men are pigs.” She lifted a dainty, pale hand and picked at the dry blood from under her nails. Even though she had said that, she was the one who lured them into the bathroom. She was the one dressing like a whore. It was all to get her target alone. All to get that one person alone. She picked at the guts and dirt under her nail. Even with all that work, she’d failed to get her target.

Corrden stopped in front of her. “I hope you don’t mean all men,” he smiles and ran one hand through that blue-black hair of his. “I hope you don’t mean me.” He dipped down and brought his face closer to the girls’. “Kindred.” Her eyes stared into his. Not even a blush or a hint of heat crept up her face at how deep and sensual his voice had became when he spoke her name. Kindred simply smiled and placed the tip of her knife against his side. “And if I do?” Corrden’s eyes grew heated from her reaction and his smile turned into a wicked grin. He pressed himself against the knife, getting closer to her.

Kindred could smell the tangy scent of his blood as it withdrew from his skin. Their faces were inches apart now. He just kept inching closer and closer towards her even as her knife dug deeper into him. Kindred leaned further back as he leaned in. Her upper body pressed against the broken glass and the edges of her lips went down. “I’m not in the mood to play tonight,” her breath brushed against his lips as her eyes looked away for the first time tonight. “I still have work to do.” Corrden puffed his lips. His hands reached and rested against her hips. His head buried itself into her neck and his teeth grazed her skin.

The act made a small sound leave Kindred’s throat. No, she shouldn’t be doing this. She had a job to do and it wasn’t pleasing this demon. “Corrden,” her voice warned. She felt his tongue run along the pulse of her neck-which was now racing again but this time with need- and shoved the knife deep into his gut. The demon froze, black blood trailing down his chin. He sucked in a deep breath and took a step back, his hands in the air. “Sorry,” he muttered. She knew he wasn’t.

Kindred never took her eyes off of the man as she wiped the blood off of her knife using her pants. She sheathed the knife and simply shook her head. “You need to leave,” she frowned and pushed herself from the shattered mirror. “I have work to do and you're nothing but an annoyance.” Corrden had the nerve to look offended, he even placed a dramatic hand to his chest. “Me? An annoyance? Oh how you damage me.” Kindred only rolled her eyes and went to collect her weapons from the corpses. So many beautiful corpses she’d created.

Once every dagger, every knife, every throwing star was collected and cleaned off Kindred placed them back where they belonged, up under her dress and hidden from normal eyes. Corrden watched as the skirt of her dress rose up, his eyes followed every movement her hands made. Watching her always took his breath away. It sometimes shocked him that this small creature could cause such chaos. Their eyes met and the girl frowned. “Stop staring at me.” Corrden simply smiled at her. “I can’t. You make it hard to take my eyes off of you, darling.” Kindred rolled her eyes again. She was never one for flirty compliments.

“Leave.” That was all she said as Kindred walked past the man. She opened the door to the bathroom and closed it hard behind her. He was fun to play with but was so damn annoying. With a small sigh, Kindred pulled out what one would think be a phone. In reality it was just a tracking device for the chip she slipped in her target’s pockets. He wasn’t in the building anymore. Great, just great. She wasted too much time with Corrden, as if he was distracting her on purpose. No, he couldn’t be. Kindred’s teeth clenched together. That bastard was stalling her so her target could get away! Damn him!

With a click of her teeth, Kindred hurried out of the building and looked around. The streets were roaming with people under the not-so starry night. City lights were everywhere and noise filled the air. Kindred hated the city with its loud noise, horrible smells and people. There were always people in cities. With a slight groan, Kindred pulled out her tracker once more. Her target wasn’t far, but if she didn’t hurry she wouldn’t make the deadline. An entire week of tracking this person, learning their routine, their interests, Kindred wanted this job done and over with. She wanted to return to her quiet little home away from these nasty humans.

It was then that she noticed that people were staring at her. The small, pale girl in a bright red dress that was far too short and showed too much cleavage was surely an eye catcher, but that wasn’t the thing that drew people’s attention, no it was the blood that clung to her skin and how cut up and damaged her poor body currently appeared. Kindred’s eyes darted around, meeting every pair of eyes that stared at her. She had to leave, she was already making a scene. How far away was she from her target? How long would it take to get there on foot? Five minutes? Ten? Twenty?

Backing up slowly, the girl started to retreat back into the building she had just came from. She had to get away from the forming crowd. Maybe if she went by rooftop it’d be faster?
