Keir trudged his way over to the table that the thing sat at. He wanted to look away from it, but damn, was it attractive in an ethereal sort of way. It had sharp, angular features and skin that was so pale and clear that he almost wanted to touch it to see if it was as smooth as it looked. Its light blond tresses framed his face perfectly and dark, thick lashes covered in a layer of eyeliner made his eyes seem an even paler shade of blue.
It could only be a demon and he was willingly approaching it.
He sat down in the empty chair beside the demon, trying hard to stop ogling it. Demons were known for being prideful, and the last thing he wanted to do was give it an ego boost. It slid the textbook across the table so they could both view it. He set his papers on the table and pretended to look them over, even though his brain was short circuiting and he wasn’t comprehending anything on it.
“My name is Nyx.” It whispered as Mr. Johnson explained the assignment to the class.
“I don’t care to know your name.” Keir hissed back, turning his gaze towards him. He almost felt bad for being mean, but he had to remember this was a demon. Being nice to it would only land him in more trouble.
The demon only chuckled, it was deep and musical, and he hated the shiver that it sent down his spine. “I’m sorry for offending you.” It turned back towards the textbook and Keir did the same.
For some reason, this only irritated Keir further. He felt an unfamiliar bout of anger build up in his chest. Honestly, who did this demon think it was? Why were these humans so unbelievably oblivious? He wanted to punch something.
The thought scared him; he was usually so laid back.
“What are you?” He whispered, not daring to look up at it.
It was silent for about ten seconds, and Keir thought that the demon wasn’t going to answer. “What do you mean?” It asked innocently, almost in a confused way.
Keir hesitated for a moment, doubting himself. He turned his gaze to meet the thing’s confused eyes. Maybe he had misjudged the aura’s owner? No, definitely not. It was coming from the thing beside him. “Don’t play dumb. I can feel it, you’re not…normal.”
“What do you think I am?” It answered, an amused smile playing on its lips
“A demon.”
It laughed loudly this time, disrupting the teacher. The entire class fell silent and everyone was looking at the creature beside him.
“Is something funny, Mr. Erebus?” Mr. Johnson asked.
“Our new student just has an overactive imagination, sir.” He answered after a few moments, making Keir’s cheeks heat up. What the hell?
“Right, well, keep your conversation for after class.” The teacher said gruffly before continuing the lesson.
Keir didn’t look at the demon for the rest of class, he was too angry and embarrassed. He felt dumb for asking what it was now, especially when it had so easily dismissed his theory.
Perhaps Nyx was just a human with a strange aura.
